chapter twenty two

Sitting by Eunjoo’s side in her hospital room, the atmosphere was filled with a blend of anticipation and nervous energy. The news of her pregnancy had quickly spread among our friends, and while it was overwhelming for both of us, I was grateful for the support we were receiving.

They had all gathered at the hospital to rally around us, though their inexperience with pregnancy was painfully obvious.

Minji was the first to speak up, her enthusiasm barely contained.

“Okay, so, I’ve read about pregnancy in magazines and watched a few documentaries. It’s all about keeping you comfortable and healthy.” She proceeded to rummage through her bag, pulling out what she’d termed “pregnancy essentials,” which included an assortment of herbal teas and a strange-looking pillow that seemed designed for a circus performer.

As Minji laid out her collection, Ni-ki, sitting nearby, tried to stifle his laughter.

Sunghoon leaned in, giving Ni-ki a teasing grin. “Looks like Minji’s all set to make sure Eunjoo’s pregnancy goes smoothly. She’s really diving into this.”

Ni-ki rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide a smirk. “Yeah, and it’s kind of amusing to see Minji so into it.”

Sunghoon chuckled, then his expression suddenly changed as he remembered something. “Oh, right. I almost forgot—Minji’s my cousin.”

His face twisted in mock horror, and he added, “So, it’s a bit unsettling to think that you, Ni-ki boy, my cousin’s boyfriend, is now involved in this whole baby thing. It’s kind of weird to be connected like that.”

Ni-ki’s eyes widened in surprise, and he frowned at Sunghoon. “Wait, what? Are you seriously disgusted by that?”

Sunghoon waved his hands, trying to backpedal. “No, no, it’s not like that. I’m just... surprised. I didn’t think about it like that before.”

Ni-ki, clearly offended, shot Sunghoon a stern look. “Well, it’s not really about being related, Sunghoon. It’s about supporting Eunjoo and being there for her. We’re all in this together, family or not.”

Sunghoon, realizing his reaction might have been too extreme, gave a sheepish grin. “Alright, alright. Point taken. I’m just trying to wrap my head around all this.”

Minji, overhearing the exchange, turned to Ni-ki with a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Ni-ki. It’s a lot to process, but we’re all here for each other.”

The group settled into their picnic on the beach, their earlier awkwardness fading into a supportive camaraderie.

Despite the mixed feelings and humorous exchanges, their dedication to Eunjoo’s well-being was clear in their efforts and togetherness.

Kiara, ever the calm and positive one, tried to offer more practical advice. “You need to focus on your diet. I read somewhere that a balanced diet is crucial. I can help plan meals, and I’ve even got a few recipes I’ve been dying to try.”

Sunoo, standing by her side with a supportive smile, added, “Kiara’s been all about healthy eating lately. Her online bakeshop is going to have a whole new line of healthy recipes now, and I’m sure Eunjoo’s baby could be the perfect model for it.”

Kiara’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm. “Exactly! And Sunoo’s right. We can make sure that every meal is nutritious and delicious. I’ve even got some ideas for baby-friendly snacks.”

Sunoo chuckled and nudged Kiara playfully. “You’ve already been experimenting with new recipes. Imagine how great it will be to have a little taste tester soon.”
