⚊ chapter twenty four
As I sat in the sterile waiting area of the hospital, my mind raced with a thousand different thoughts. My heart was in my throat, pounding so loudly that it was all I could hear. Eunjoo was in the emergency room, and I had never felt so helpless in my life.
The image of her pale face, the blood trickling from her nose, and the way she collapsed in her brother's arms kept replaying in my head, tormenting me.
The doors to the waiting area slid open, and our friends came rushing in, their faces a mix of concern and exhaustion from the chaos at the airport.
Heeseung and Jake were the first to reach me, and without a word, they pulled me into a tight hug. That simple gesture of support was all it took for the walls I had been holding up to come crashing down.
My body shook as I finally let the tears fall, the fear and worry I had been holding back pouring out of me.
“I’m so scared,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I don’t know if she’s going to be okay, or the baby…”
Heeseung’s grip tightened around me, and Jake patted my back, trying to offer some reassurance. But I could see the worry in their eyes too. None of us knew what was going to happen.
Sunghoon stood off to the side, his gaze shifting between me and Eunwoo, who was pacing back and forth, clearly suspicious of everything that was happening.
Sunoo and Jungwon were nearby, their eyes wide as they stared at the famous actor, obviously intimidated but unable to look away.
A nurse stepped into the waiting area, her gaze quickly landing on Minji, Isa, and Ni-ki, who were sporting small cuts and bruises from the chaotic encounter with the reporters.
She approached them with a professional yet concerned expression.
"You three look like you've been through quite a bit," the nurse said, her tone gentle but firm. "Let's get you cleaned up before those injuries risk getting infected. Follow me, please."
Minji nodded, her usual fiery demeanor subdued by the weight of the situation.
"Okay," she replied quietly, her voice lacking its usual spark.
Isa exchanged a glance with Ni-ki, who was unusually silent.
"Come on," she urged, lightly touching his arm. "We should get patched up."
Ni-ki sighed but followed along. As they started to leave, he turned back, his eyes locking with mine.
It was a brief moment, but in that glance, I saw something different in him—concern, maybe even a hint of fear, emotions I wasn’t used to seeing in Ni-ki’s normally confident demeanor.
"You good, man?" Ni-ki asked, his voice quieter than usual.
I nodded, trying to muster some reassurance. "Yeah. Go on, get those cuts taken care of."
"Don't go anywhere without us," Minji added, her tone a bit more forceful, like she was trying to regain some control in a situation that felt entirely out of it.
"Don't worry," I assured them, though I wasn't sure if I was trying to convince them or myself. "I'll be right here."
They disappeared through the doorway, leaving the waiting room a little emptier and the air a bit heavier. As the door closed behind them, I couldn’t help but feel the growing anxiety of what was still to come.
Kiara, Yoon, and Sunhee settled onto the bench, trying to stay out of the way while still being there for support. We were all in our little world of worry and tension, waiting for any news on Eunjoo.
