⚊ chapter seventeen
The day of the wedding was closing in, and the atmosphere in our group was a mix of anticipation and tension. We’d all gathered for a casual lunch, hoping to take a break from the mounting stress.
But it was clear that the weight of the upcoming event was beginning to take its toll, especially on Eunjoo.
As we sat around the table, Eunjoo was noticeably quieter than usual. She kept her head down, pushing her food around on her plate with a lack of enthusiasm. Every now and then, she would take a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
My concern grew with each passing minute.
I watched as she suddenly went pale, her hand gripping the edge of the table for support. Her eyes fluttered shut for a moment, and she looked like she was about to collapse.
My heart raced as I sprang up from my seat and rushed to her side.
“Eunjoo!” I said urgently, placing my hand on her shoulder.
The room fell silent, the clinking of silverware and murmur of conversations halting abruptly. Eyes turned to Eunjoo, who was gripping the edge of the table, her face paling.
“Eunjoo?” I said urgently, sliding into the seat next to her. “Are you okay?”
She tried to smile, but it wavered. “I’m just a bit dizzy,” she said, her voice trembling. Her hand shook slightly, and she looked like she might faint.
Minji was immediately at her side. “Eunjoo, you should sit down. You don’t look well.”
Sunhee, her face a mix of worry and embarrassment, fumbled with a napkin as if it could somehow fix the situation. “I knew we shouldn’t have gone out today. We should have just stayed in.”
Kiara’s eyes were wide with concern as she reached for Eunjoo’s arm. “Maybe we should call someone. This doesn’t look good.”
Eunjoo shook her head, trying to stay upright. “No, I’m fine. Really.”
Heeseung was already on his feet, pacing anxiously. “This isn’t right. She looks like she’s going to collapse.”
Sunoo, usually calm and collected, rolled his eyes at Heeseung’s over-the-top reaction. “Heeseung, relax. It’s probably just low blood sugar or something. We’ll get her some water and make sure she sits down.”
I glanced around, seeing the worry etched on everyone’s faces. “I think we need to get her checked out. This doesn’t seem like something she can just brush off.”
“Jay’s right,” Minji said, her usual cheerfulness replaced with concern. “Let’s get her some help, and then we can figure out the next steps.”
The tension in the room was palpable as everyone rushed to help. I helped Eunjoo settle into a nearby chair, keeping a close eye on her while we waited for the doctor to arrive.
Her hand was still in mine, and I could feel the tremble of her fingers.
As the group busied themselves with making phone calls and arranging for a doctor, I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread.
The mission was looming, but right now, all I could think about was Eunjoo and making sure she was alright.
The room was a flurry of activity, but I stayed close to Eunjoo, determined to support her through whatever was coming next.
I wasn’t buying it. Not for a second. As much as I wanted to keep her calm and not cause a scene, I knew something was seriously wrong.
I could see the worried glances of our friends, but I needed to act fast and figure out what was really going on with Eunjoo.
