The warm afternoon sun filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground as you walked hand in hand with Jeongguk. His fingers were intertwined with yours, a constant reminder of the love that had blossomed between you since high school. His presence was like a warm blanket, always wrapped around you, comforting and familiar. Jeongguk was smiling-no, beaming-as he looked at you, his eyes filled with that unmistakable adoration that made your heart skip a beat. "I can't believe how lucky I am to have you," he whispered, pulling you closer so he could plant a soft kiss on your temple. You giggled, your cheeks flushing at his words, even though you had heard them countless times before. Jungkook followed a few steps behind, hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket, his expression unreadable. But inside, a storm was brewing. Every time Jeongguk touched you, every time you smiled up at his twin, it was like a knife twisting in his chest. He wanted to look away, to shut out the sight of you two together, but he couldn't. He was drawn to it, unable to stop himself from imagining what it would be like if things were different. If it was him holding your hand, if it was him pulling you close, if it was him who had captured your heart.
Where Jeongguk was warm and open, Jungkook was distant and cool, his tsundere personality a stark contrast to his brother's lovey-dovey demeanor. "Hey, Kook," Jeongguk called out, his voice light and teasing. "You're falling behind again. Are you that shy around us?" Jungkook forced a shrug, trying to keep his voice even. "You two are just... a lot to handle," he replied, his tone laced with irritation. But the irritation wasn't directed at you. It was directed at himself, for wanting something he knew he couldn't have. Jeongguk laughed, pulling you even closer to him.
"Can you blame me? Look at her. How could I resist?" Jungkook's heart clenched painfully as you leaned into Jeongguk's embrace, your cheeks flushed with happiness. He wanted to reach out, to pull you away, to tell you that it should be him by your side, not his brother. But he couldn't. He was trapped, caught between his love for his brother and his desire for you. "Whatever," Jungkook muttered, quickening his pace to walk beside you both. But even as he did, he couldn't shake the image that had been seared into his mind-of you in his arms, of you looking at him the way you looked at Jeongguk. His thoughts were a tangled mess of jealousy and longing, and no matter how hard he tried to push them away, they always came back, stronger than before. He imagined what it would be like if things had turned out differently, if you had fallen for him instead of Jeongguk. Would you be the one clinging to his side, smiling up at him with that same adoration? The thought consumed him, even as he tried to ignore it. He hated how weak it made him feel, how powerless he was to change anything. He was the one who had always been there for you, who had understood you in ways that even Jeongguk didn't. But it didn't matter. You had chosen Jeongguk, and Jungkook had been forced to watch from the sidelines, his heart breaking a little more each day.
