Chapter 66

Scarlett's POV:

I left Maddie alone for the next hour whilst I prepared dinner. I could tell she was getting worked up when she called me Scarlett, so I just let her calm down. 

I've been working a lot more lately, trying to finish filming this film, before it's time for the surprise I've got planned for Maddie. I've finished for a few months now but it's just been a hectic few weeks. I mean I only saw Maddie for a couple of minutes at night whilst we ate and that was it, she just stayed in her room most of the time I was home. 

Colin told me that it's always awkward when they're in the same room with each other alone. I mean I get why but I was sort of hoping Maddie would get more comfortable with him. I can't compare her with rose because rose has known Colin longer than Maddie and rose was only young when they first met so she's just been more comfortable for that reason. For Maddie I suppose she only sees him as the man I married. I don't know if Maddie knew about Colin and rose before moving here. I know that no one on her dad's side talked about me to her because I was this unspoken, known secret. Maybe Maddie saw it in the news but I don't know. I hate to think of her reaction to it if that's how she found out.

I hear footsteps walking towards the kitchen, that pulls me out of my deep thoughts.

 "Smells nice in here Scarlett" Lizzie says hugging me before sitting down.

 Lizzie and Chris both have keys to my house. They've always had them in case of an emergency, or if I need someone to look after rose ,or check on something when I'm out of the country, they have them just in case. I also have keys to there house although I've never really had to use them.

 "Yep! Maddie's favourite, spaghetti Bolognese." 

 "Ah! Trying to bribe the kid I see" Liz jokes. I nod my head and pour Liz and me a glass of wine.

 "The only way she might actually have a full conversation with me"

 "I thought you guys were getting better?" Lizzie asks.

 " I don't know Liz. I thought so too until she started ignoring her aunts. Ever since then things have just gone shit" 

 "So she's still ignoring all of them then" I nod my head and just take a long sip of my drink.

Me and Lizzie continue to chat for a bit whilst I prepared dinner.

I go to call Maddie but I see her slowly creep behind Lizzie doing a shushing motion to me. She creeps up to her shoulder and shouts 'boo' in her ear.

 "Jeez Maddie! A hello would have been nice" Lizzie says putting her hand on her chest. Maddie laughs and gives her a hug.

 "Cheer up. I couldn't not take the chance to scare you" she says grinning at Lizzie. Lizzie just rolls her eyes. Maddie sits next to her.

 "What's ur plans then for the summer now your off school, trouble?" Liz asks Maddie. I looked up at Liz and tried to signal to her to stop talking.

 "I don't know, probably going to stay with dad for a bit?" She said saying the last part as a question and looking at me. Shit!

 I shrugged my shoulders at her.

 "We'll see Maddie. It depends on what I've got planned" I say to her. She nods and continues chatting away to Liz about how her time away for work was.

 "When's Rose coming back?" Maddie turns to me and asks.

 "Um probably not for a while, her and her dad are going on holiday" Maddie nods her head.

 "When's your next competition?" Lizzie asks her.

 "Not for a few months. Things have been held back and we're having a break" Maddie tells her.

I continue making dinner whilst Liz and Maddie chatted away. I eventually finished and served dinner.

Whilst we ate we put on a film and sat in the living room. Maddie sat as far away from me as possible. Which meant that she's still avoiding me for some reason. I'll ask her about it later on.

We finished the film and Lizzie went home since it was getting late and she had work tomorrow. Maddie had left for her room ages ago whilst me and Lizzie just talked.

I finished clearing up dinner and making sure the house was clean before going to Maddie's room.

I walked in and sat on her bed. She was lying down doing something on her phone.

 "I want to ask you something" I say to her. She doesn't say anything and her eyes don't leave the screen.

 "Madeline can you please look at me when I'm taking to you" she sighs but does what I ask and switched her phone off and looks at me.

 "Have I done something?" I ask her . She shakes her head at me and looks down at the bed.

 "Then why are you all of a sudden avoiding me, I mean I've barely seen you" 

 "you've been working, I've been at school and I do see you"

 "You've been off school for 2 weeks now and I've asked you multiple time if you want to come to work with me and you say no." I remind her.

 "Yeah because I don't want to sit in a stuffy, hot trailer all day staring at a screen" she argues.

 "You wouldn't of, you could have gone to watch the filming but that's not the point. I'm worried about you. You're barely interacting with anyone"

 "So? It's not that big of a deal" 

 "Yes it is. You don't talk to your aunts, you haven't seen you're dad, you don't talk to me or Colin" I list.

 "Why would I talk to Colin?" 

 " because he lives here and is a member of this family" I explain to her.

 "I don't know him. What conversation do you want me to have with him. Oh hi Colin yeah the weather looks great today" she says sarcastically .

 "That's not what I mean and you know it" 

 "I don't know him. To me he's literally just some random dude you married" she argues with me. I sigh because she is right. He is just some random guy that I married, I mean she's never even met him before coming here, she didn't come to the wedding.

 "But I want you to get to know him. I presume you've got to know your dad's girlfriends in the past why can't you do the same"

" Dad didn't have many girlfriends and they didn't last long enough for me to ever meet them. "

 That's something I didn't know, I presume he'd start dating straight away and have millions of girlfriends like he did during our marriage.

 " Look I'll be nicer to Colin okay? Are we done? "

 " Yes. Thank you"

 "Whatever" she says turning her phone on and going back to scrolling or whatever she was doing.

 I sit there just staring a the wall thinking.

Maddie's surprise is coming tomorrow and to say I'm terrified is an understatement. she's either going to hate me or love me for it there is no inbetween. I'm pretty sure she's going to hate me. Shit!

I say goodnight to Maddie and kiss her on the head before leaving to then get ready for bed.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day!
