"What do you want to know about me?" I asked, surprising myself. It surprised me that I replied that way instead of thinking that he was inquisitive.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty-two and you?"
"Twenty-five, how many siblings do you have?"
"My mom told me I have two siblings by my dad's side."
"You don't know them?"
"It's complicated."
"I have two siblings also, Demir and Mia."
"What makes your family so prejudice?" I asked curiously.
"No one has ever asked me that question. Better yet they haven't gotten the opportunity to ask me.
I think it's just a tradition that past from one generation to the next. I saw it growing up and I adopted it like most of us did. But let's face it, this country was built on discrimination. It has always been a classist and colourist society." He explained.
"That's because it was made by the rich light-skins, who are prejudice and sees the poor dark skins as slaves." I retorted.
"You got that right, but there is no need to get angry."
"Why shouldn't I be?"
"Because our society has always been like this and we'll die and leave it as is. Life can't be fair." This remark made me fumed and I got up angrily ready to exit the restaurant. As I was about to walk past him he grabbed my arm and apologized and told me to sit. I suppress my anger and took my seat again.
"That might have not came out very nicely." He said calmly.
"It sure didn't." I replied rolling my eyes.
"Anyways, how are you enjoying your meal?" he changed the topic.
"It's good, aren't you scared to be caught with someone of my class by your friends and family?" I returned to the topic.
"They won't catch us. Let's talk about some lighter topics. Have you ever had a boyfriend before?" he asked chewing on his food while staring directly at me.
"Why are you asking me that?"
"Just curious."
"I only had one boyfriend and that was in college." I replied still wondering why he was interested in my love life.
"How did you guys breakup?"
"That's too much information, how about your lady?"
"I'm currently engaged."
"When is the wedding?"
"A date isn't finalized as yet."
"Congratulations!" I said excitedly. He nodded and gave me a sad smile.
As we were done eating, he paid the bill and we exited the restaurant. His chauffeur was right there waiting for him.
"Do you want a lift home?" he asked.
"No, I'll hail a cab."
"You prefer to stand and wait this late for a cab than take a free ride home?" he asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"Cool, see you tomorrow."
It was 11 pm and it was hard to get public transport at night. Though, I would appreciate the free ride I didn't want my boss to see where I live. The rich was already judgmental of the poor.
After an hour a cab came and he sped off to Bennywood and I reached home in the blink of an eye. As I opened the door I saw my mom on the sofa waiting up for me.
"I was worried, why were you out this long?" she asked.
"We conversed for like three hours and the cab took an hour to come."
"So, are you and the boss together?" she asked.
"No, I'm not his cup of tea, he sees me as a nice friend to talk to."
"I'm going to bed now, good night." with that she walked off.
I sauntered to my room being exhausted and dived right into my bed. I fell asleep immediately.
