Also known as Deddfau Ymlwybrad, the Calan measure time by the orbit of Sylfaenydd around Tanwen. In Calonlais, this is referred to as the Alaw of Tanwen (the Melody of White Fire).

- A pennill (Sylfaenydd-day) is the time it takes for Sylfaenydd to rotate on its axis once. It is equivalent to approximately 22 Earth-hours and can vary depending on the strength of the Craigfywyd at any given moment.

- A pennod (Sylfaenydd-month) is the time between which it takes for Brawd and Chwaer (Sylfaenydd's two moons) to meet in conjunction.

- A cam  (Sylfaenydd-year) is the period in which it takes Sylfaenydd to orbit around Tanwen. It equates approximately to about 488 Sylfaenydd-days (or pennillion).
