Nova's pov
I had been tossing and turning in bed, the frustration from not having my medication weighing heavily on me. I finally decided to get up and address the issue. The restlessness was getting unbearable, and I knew I needed to let Alexander know.
I slipped into a comfortable robe and padded quietly to the living room where Alexander was still working. As I approached, I saw him hunched over his laptop, deeply focused. The sight of him brought a small, guilty smile to my face. Despite everything, he was here for me, and I couldn't deny how much I appreciated it.
"Alexander," I said softly, my voice tinged with a hint of annoyance. He looked up, his gaze meeting mine with a mixture of concern and curiosity.
"What's wrong, Nova?" he asked, his tone immediately shifting to one of genuine care.
"I ran out of my medication," I pouted, placing my hands on my hips for added effect. "I really need it, and it's driving me crazy."
He sighed and set his laptop aside, standing up to face me fully. "Alright, let's get this sorted out. Do you know where your prescription is?"
I shook my head. "Not exactly. I think it's in my room somewhere, but I'm too tired to look for it myself."
Alexander's expression softened. "Okay, I'll help you find it. You just stay here and take a seat."
I watched as he moved toward my bedroom, his steps purposeful. It was a small thing, but the fact that he was willing to help me out like this made me feel a lot better. I flopped onto the couch, trying to calm the unease that had been building up inside me.
A few minutes later, Alexander returned with the medication in hand. He sat down next to me, holding out the bottle. "Here you go. Let's make sure you take the right dosage."
I accepted it with a grateful smile. "Thanks, Alexander. I'm really sorry for the trouble."
He waved it off with a chuckle. "No trouble at all. Just take care of yourself, alright?"
I nodded, taking the medication with a small sip of water. As I looked up at him, I could see the concern in his eyes, and it made me feel a little more at ease. Despite the complexities of our situation, I was starting to appreciate the moments of kindness and care we shared.
"By the way," I said, leaning in slightly and offering him a teasing smile, "if you keep being this nice to me, I might start thinking you're trying to win me over."
Alexander's eyes twinkled with amusement. "Well, I suppose that's not entirely out of the question."
I couldn't help but laugh, the tension easing a bit. "Just don't expect me to make it easy for you."
He grinned, leaning back on the couch. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
Alexander's pov
The medication had worked its magic, and Nova seemed more at ease, though the playful banter between us was a stark contrast to the tension of earlier. Seeing her relaxed, even if just a little, was a small victory, and I was determined to keep it that way.
I resumed my work, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Nova. There was a sense of comfort in having her around, despite the complexity of our relationship. Her teasing smile, the way she pouted when asking for help-it all made me question the boundaries we had set.
I glanced over at her, sprawled comfortably on the couch. She was trying to focus on a book, but the way she kept glancing at me told me that she was far from distracted by her reading. I couldn't help but feel a slight sense of satisfaction at the way our roles had shifted. Once upon a time, she was the one keeping me on my toes; now, I found myself increasingly invested in her well-being.
"So," I said, breaking the comfortable silence, "are you feeling better now that you've had your medication?"
Nova looked up from her book, her eyes meeting mine with a mix of gratitude and mischief. "Much better, thanks. I guess it's a good thing you were around to help me out."
"Just doing my part," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant, though I could feel a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth.
She put the book aside and stretched a little, her movements languid but graceful. "You know, Alexander, you're quite the caretaker. I didn't expect that from you."
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what did you expect?"
"I don't know," she said with a playful smirk. "Maybe someone a bit more... detached. But I have to admit, you're surprising me."
"I'm full of surprises," I said, leaning back in my chair. "Just like you are."
Her expression softened, and for a moment, the playful banter was replaced by a more genuine warmth. "I guess we're both full of surprises then."
"Seems that way," I agreed, my voice softer now. "And you know, despite everything that's happened, I'm glad you're here."
Nova tilted her head slightly, a thoughtful look on her face. "Yeah, me too. It's strange, but this whole situation isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe it's because I've got someone like you looking out for me."
The sincerity in her voice made my chest tighten. I had been so focused on repairing the damage I'd caused, on making things right, that I hadn't considered how deeply this might affect both of us. There was a connection here that went beyond the professional boundaries we once had.
"I'm glad to hear that," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "And I'm going to keep looking out for you, no matter what."
She smiled at me, the warmth in her eyes almost making me forget about the work piled up on my desk. "I appreciate that, Alexander. Really, I do."
As I looked at her, I realized that the dynamics between us had shifted in ways I hadn't anticipated. The lines between professional and personal were blurring, and though it was complicated, it was also strangely comforting. For the first time in a while, I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be.
