I looked down at her with a mix of anticipation and concern. "Is this okay?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. Her eyes met mine, and she nodded slightly.

"Yes, it's okay," she whispered, though her breath hitched slightly. I moved carefully, making sure to gauge her comfort with each movement.

"Just let me know if you need me to stop," I said, my voice filled with concern. Her hand reached up to touch my arm, a signal of reassurance.

"I'll tell you," she replied softly. I continued, paying close attention to her reactions, determined to make sure she was alright.

I pulled away, sitting on the edge of the couch and taking a moment to catch my breath. I glanced over at Nova. Her face was flushed, and she had a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked, trying to gauge her reaction.

Nova looked at me with a mix of playfulness and satisfaction. "I'm more than okay," she said softly. "You?"

I nodded, trying to steady my breathing. "I'm fine. Just... needed a moment."

She slowly shifted, positioning herself on my lap, her gaze locked with mine. "You didn't think I'd let you off that easy, did you?"

I smiled, trying to match her playful tone. "I should have known better. What are you planning next?"

Nova leaned in closer, her voice a whisper. "Well, that depends on how you're feeling. I'd say you owe me a bit more."

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? And what exactly do I owe you?"

She chuckled softly, tracing her fingers lightly on my chest. "You'll find out soon enough. For now, just relax and enjoy the moment."

I took a deep breath, appreciating the warmth of her presence. "Alright, but remember, you have to let me catch my breath first."

Nova smiled, clearly pleased with the turn of events. "Deal. Just don't keep me waiting too long."

As the day wound down, I finished up my tasks and noticed that Alexander was still engrossed in his work. The office was quiet, the low hum of computers and occasional rustle of papers the only sounds breaking the stillness. I glanced at the clock and decided to see what he was working on.

I walked over to his desk, careful to avoid making any noise that might interrupt his concentration. When I reached him, I peered over his shoulder to see a stack of reports and financial spreadsheets spread out in front of him. His brow was furrowed in concentration as he tapped away at the keyboard, occasionally jotting down notes on a pad beside him.

"Burning the midnight oil, I see," I said softly, leaning against the edge of his desk.

Alexander glanced up, a faint smile touching his lips. "Just trying to finish up a few things before calling it a day."

I nodded, my gaze lingering on the screen. "Anything I can help with? I mean, I'm here anyway."

He hesitated for a moment, then gestured to a particularly complex spreadsheet. "Actually, yes. Could you look over these numbers? I need a second pair of eyes to make sure everything adds up."

I nodded and settled into the chair beside him, pulling the spreadsheet closer. As I reviewed the figures, I couldn't help but notice the slight tension in his shoulders and the weariness in his eyes.

"Don't you think you've worked enough for today?" I asked, glancing up at him.

He chuckled softly, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "I suppose I have. Just a bit more to go."

I continued working alongside him, offering occasional input and making small talk to lighten the mood. Despite the serious nature of the task, the air between us felt more relaxed, and the camaraderie was a welcome change.

Eventually, Alexander let out a deep sigh and closed his laptop. "Thanks for the help. I think that's enough for tonight."

I smiled, stretching my arms overhead. "No problem. Let's get out of here. We both could use a break."

As we gathered our things and prepared to leave, I felt a sense of satisfaction. It was nice to be able to support him, even in small ways.
