~~~~~~"I had grabbed lunch for you today." Kofi sits beside me.
"Thank you. What did you get?" I'm focused on sending follow-up emails to some of our clients.
"The special salads today were grilled chicken and shrimp." He hands me mine with a lemonade.
"I love that place. I'm so glad they are close to the job." I open the lid. "Looks so good." I poor ranch all over it.
"You know I love salads."
"That I do know. What was the issue with that mom this morning?"
He finishes chewing his food and washes it down with his water. "Her son's medicaid needs to be renewed."
"All she needs to do is reapply."
"Exactly and my mom still wrote her a prescription for antibiotics to clear up the infection. She gave it to her on the house."
"Hold on." I see that Islan is calling.
"Hey." I smile the moment I hear his voice.
"He baby. Just wanted you to know my co-workers fuck with the Jamaican patties you sent fah lunch."
"Oh good. I had never made them." I put him on speaker phone because I wanted to dig into my food.
"You Chef Curry in the kitchen baby. You don't miss."
I smiled as I take a bite. "Thank you."
"How work?...hold on. Man, don't just throw the lady shit. Sit it up right." He yells at someone. "Was it like that when we pulled up?"
I look over at Kofi and he's laughing silently eating his food.
"Sorry bout that." Islan returns to the phone.
"You're fine." I wipe my mouth.
"Fine enough to get some-" I quickly take him off speaker and pick up the phone. "Head?"
"Islan," I turn away from Kofi.
"What?"
"You were on speaker phone. My co-worker heard you."
"Oh shit" I hear the laughter in his voice. "My bad."
"But yes. Yes you can." I shrug when Kofi shakes his head.
"Okay. Let me go. This man do not listen. Alan...yo you tryna get fired?"
"Bye bye."
"Bye baby." We hang up.
"Keep your mouth closed Kofi." I close out a few accounts.
"Why? You don't keep yours closed, from what your boyfriend asking for." He leans his chair back on two legs, balls up a piece of paper and tosses it into the small trash can.
