Rain

Day one

It was about 3:35 am and I was outside on the patio but heard someone in the kitchen. I look over to see Carter. He smiles and waves. "What's good fam...hope I wasn't too loud."

"No, I was gonna hit the blunt a few times. I can't sleep." I walk closer.

"I had the taste for some cocoa with lots of marshmallows. Fancy a cup?"

"Please...you make it look so damn good." We both giggle quietly.

"Okay. Then maybe I can join you out there. They say the storm won't start for another couple hours."

When he's done he handed me mine and we tiptoe out to the patio. I light the outside and we bundle up under the covers, sipping the hot chocolate. "Mmm." I savored the first taste.

"This is the best. I love the view."

"I said the same thing when I first came here. Tre is so welcoming and so kind. Like you, you seem that way as well. Sorry if I just want to be close to you. You have an inviting way about you."

"Awww...thank you. Is there something going on in your life? You put up a good front but from someone who can read people. I sense pain."

I close my eyes and let out a low breath. When I open them they're watery. "I haven't told Boon or Islan, but I'm thinking about moving out of state."

"Boon is the one you fancy and Islan is Tre's man?"

"Yeah and sorry...I love your accent. It just makes you even more prettier."

"Thank you, babe." He sits up and placed his and my mug on the table beside us. Then he lifts his arm and I lay on him. "Why are you running from Boon?"

"Because I have a stupid ex that has been way too quiet which leaves me to believe he's up to some dangerous."

"Well, from what I clocked about Boon, he doesn't come across as the type that is very worried."

"He isn't but I don't want him crashing out because of me. Just because he's not worried, doesn't mean he can't get hurt." The tears fall. "I know they are all willing to protect but it's not right of me to bring them into this."

"Are you smitten with him?" He smiles.

I chuckle. "If that means do I love him, we're not even together."

"Oh, you're only linking, yet you're outside at 4:00 in the morning, crying to a stranger about him."

"Wow, don't call my ass out." We both laugh.

"I have absolutely zero room to call you out. My story is one for the ages." He sighs.

"Do tell. I love some hot tea." I snuggle up closer to him.

"Um, I dunno...Damien and I started dating but he couldn't get over our other husband. I broke things off and they got married."

I scrunch up my face in confusion. "Wait...what they came back to get you and you accepted?"

"I do come across a bit daft. Sometimes, I randomly fantasize about slapping them both because of how you're judging me."
