The storm had finally settled, and everything was starting to fall back into place. Winter service trucks crawled through the streets, clearing what was left of the snow so people could finally move again.

Morning hit fast—and loud.

The house was chaos in motion. Guests packed bags, doors opened and shut, voices overlapped. Tre moved through it all like he'd appointed himself head of operations, making sure nobody forgot a single thing. Every few minutes, he'd pop into the kitchen, checking on breakfast like sending people off fed was part of his moral code.

I would've helped, but we were sharing the house with Max and Carter—two more versions of Tre. The kind of people who found purpose in taking care of everyone else.

So I stayed out of their way and let them run the show.

As I passed Rain's room, the door swung open hard enough to make me pause. Boon stormed out, jaw tight, shoulders stiff—clearly pissed.

"What's up?"

He keeps walking but stops and turns around. "You know you and Tre almost had me believing, but love just ain't fah me. None of this shit is."

I peep into the room to see Rain packing. I knock, then gently push the door more open and Boon walks in behind me. "What this is?" I question.

"This is me leaving and going to stay with family. I have been away long enough. I'm not too proud to realize I need them."

"Oh." I look back at Boon making his way to the other side of Rain. "Time with family is somethin important, so I can't be mad at."

"Thank you. Glad somebody understands." He neatly places the stacked up clothes into the suitcase.

"You don't have any plans of comin back?" I ask.

Boon is using everything in him to withhold from exploding

"No. Not as of right now." Rain words nearly send him over the edge.

I put my hand out, asking him to calm down.

"We kinda tryna build some shit out with us and you just gonna dip?"

"I'm not about to let you get in my head and make me feel like shit. I have to for once put myself first. I have been playing number two to my own happiness for too long now." He zips up his suitcase.

"You ain't wrong fah that Rain."

"Anybody saying he is?" Boon eyes burn through mine. His tone indicates he doesn't want me in their conversation.

"I have made my decision." He starts packing another suitcase.

"I let you in Rain...and nobody gets in."

"Boon you hot one day and cold the next. You want me and then you don't. You're nice and then you a fuckin asshole. I'm too familiar with those signs."

"You sayin um similar to that muhfucka that was swellin up yo eyes?" He walks closer to Rain.

"Look at how hostile you get." He steps back. "Sometimes that scares me Boon." He moves closer to me.
