Candles lined both sides of the street. Standing up on the hilly side of the yard I could see them going all the way down the road. It was pretty, Ali would think so.
Her send off day was set for the end of October. Her having an abortion was a big rumour in the community, they said it killed her. I even overheard persons in the yard talking, but they were basically saying it couldn't be true and people should mind their business.
Wish dem did shut up an no say Ntn still Like take their own advice."Asia baby you alright?" I was asked for the millionth time and I nodded giving a small smile to ward the person off, not even know a who.
Some family member, who knew the family was so big.I knew they all meant well but a part of me wished Ali had more time, wished I'd gone instead of her. I already lived some life, spent some time here maybe enough.
She was still just a child, so many years ahead. I knew I should be thankful for the little time she did have but it hurt so bad. I wiped my eyes.
She barely live no life yet."Sophia?" I whispered.
A Soph that?I watched as Kyle pointed to me from the gate and Rain handed him and another one of my distant cousins two crates and cases of drinks. So Rain was with her, was he here? I sighed in relief realising it was only them.
Why mi even?...She walked over to me struggling to get up to where I was standing.
Affi know di place fi traverse deh lil bankin ya.Rain helped her and she hugged me when she could stand steady.
"Heeeeeey. You think mi wouldn't come don't?"
I nodded forcing a smile.
"Sup?" I said to Rain after he said goodnight.
I looked from her to him with a question in my eyes.
She smiled looking away and I smiled.
See you."B mi soon forward."
"Alright." She answered watching him go.
"Girlll mi a climb dat, ride dat, swing pon dat, boom flick, head top etcetera etcetera." She said with a wide smile.
I burst out laughing.
This girl!"Know that would make you smile yaaay!"
I shook my head hugging her again. I really hadn't thought she'd make it because of her work.
"This big tho." She said softly. It was huge, tons of people from the community came out. Practically the entire community and some from the surrounding areas.
"Where's your Grandma?"
I really had no clue where she was, probably in the make-ship kitchen at the back. She'd been up and down, out and about thuging it out, she was still handling it better than me.
I felt so useless."She's somewhere bout the place no sure, you want to see her?"
"No not yet it's fine was just asking."
