Lea was taken to the CT scanner. Samuel took out his cell phone and called the father of the girl to inform him about the whole situation. He also assured him that he would stay with her for as long as it would take.

– She has a slight concussion, but nothing dangerous, no bleeding. We want to keep her for observation, but of course she won't agree to that – Lora went out into the corridor to inform Samuel about the results of the x-ray and the tests.

– Nothing new – Samuel sighed – I'll talk to her, I'd prefer it if she stayed here for observation, a concussion is not a trivial matter.

The doctor nodded and left the room. Samuel was on his way to the room where the girl was. She was on the bed with a bandage on her head in her hand.

– You'll stay for observation until tomorrow – he announced, ready to talk to her about leaving the hospital right away. But she did not say anything, she accepted it without saying a word - are you feeling any worse than before? – he asked her with a smile when he saw the look on her face. She looked into his eyes.

– Haven't you got something better to do than sit here? – she asked, not understanding why he didn't just leave.

– My presence here guarantees that you won't get away – he chuckled, sitting down in an armchair by the bed.

– I'm in no hurry for the inauguration – she assured him with a glance at the clock on the wall, the ceremony started half an hour ago.

– I have noticed – he nodded – although I don't understand why, that you are much more suited for this position than your sister is.

She rolled her eyes in response to his words.

– Maybe they should give you an x-ray of your head as well.

Samuel laughed out loud at that.

– Didn't you hit your head by accident when you were carrying me out of the car?

– Even if I did hit my head, it won't change my mind – he shrugged – I was on the phone with your father when you had the x-ray and because of your absence they are considering choosing your sister.

– Phenomenal – Lea let out a sigh of relief.

– The operating room is waiting for us – a nurse came into the room with a wheel cart in front of her.

Lea carefully got up from the bed and sat down on it. Sometime later, she was in the treatment room of the surgical ward. When she returned to her room, Samuel was not there. She felt sleepy from the anesthesia and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Samuel made a couple of phone calls and was relieved to see that the girl was asleep. He went down to the cafeteria at the hospital and ate his lunch. He was tired from the barrage of emotions that he had been through all day. First the chase after Lea, then the quick change of tires, and finally this accident. He wasn't surprised that the team's bodyguards weren't on guard duty for her. It was 24/7 work. He sat in the chair next to the bed and watched her, she looked so peaceful the way she was sleeping. He wanted to sleep, and the coffee he had been drinking in the cafeteria didn't help him at all. Every now and then, his eyes would start to close on their own.

– Go to sleep – he heard the girl's soft voice.

He looked at Lea, her eyes were open and looking at him.

– That you were going to run away from me?

She rolled her eyes in annoyance at him.

– I'm not going anywhere – she threw at him as she covered herself even more tightly with the blanket.

– I find that hard to believe – he pulled the handcuffs out of his pocket.

– You're joking – she said in surprise, raising her eyebrows.

– I'm not kidding - he replied calmly, and with a quick, deft movement, he cuffed her left hand and attached the other to the bedstead she was lying on.

She had a look at the handcuffs, they were quite sturdy, military grade. They were not much different from the ones she had worn before, though she had rarely had to deal with them. The police type ones that the bodyguards had were a little bit thinner and lighter.

– Well, now I can go to sleep – he said satisfied with himself as he closed his eyes.

He didn't even have time to make himself comfortable in his chair when he heard the sound of the handcuffs falling to the floor. Lea was sitting on the bed, massaging her hand.

– How did you do that? – he asked, confused, and reached for the handcuffs, but they were still in place, only they had been unlocked.

– This is not the first time someone has handcuffed me – she said, taking her feet off the bed and slowly making her way to the bathroom, which was in the room.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror, she had blood vessel breaks in her eyes, the gash on her forehead was bigger than she thought. It went from her right eyebrow all the way down to her hairline. Other than that, she didn't notice that she had any other injuries at all. She left the bathroom after rinsing her face with water.

– I wasn't joking, go to sleep - she said as she sat down on the bed.

– I don't believe you – he laughed and turned the pair of handcuffs in his hand.

– I made a point of not attending the ceremony. It worked, so I have no reason to run, – she shrugged.

– Couldn't you think of a more twisted way to get away with it already?

– This accident was not a part of the plan at all.

– I know, I'm very sorry about that. I'm glad to see that nothing serious has happened to you.

– You are only saying that because if something had happened to me, you would have been fired – she remarked.

Samuel laughed.

– Nothing is going to happen to you while I watch over you. Or at least nothing much more serious than what you have just acquired - he said, still laughing.

– Wasn't your shift supposed to be over by now?

– My replacement will be here soon – he said with a nod.

– I hope that he has taken something to calm him down – she added as she lay down on a pillow.

– One more word and I'll call it off, because something tells me you're going to wind up after all - he said with a smile, pulling out his phone.

– No, no. You deserve to have a rest – she said without looking at him, her eyes were fixed on a wall where there was a clock and a couple of paintings.

– You've convinced me – Samuel got up from his seat, dialed the number of a replacement and walked out into the corridor with the phone to his ear.

Lea was beginning to wonder what she was going to do next, she was about to go home as if nothing had ever happened. She wasn't sure if this swearing in of her sister was permanent or just for the duration of her absence.

– I'm going to stay here – Samuel announced as he entered the room and sat down in an armchair.

– This is one more reason to sleep.

– Don't tease me – he laughed.
