She woke up and heard a couple of voices in the room. It was eight o'clock in the morning and the rounds for the morning patients had begun. There were six doctors in her room and they were in discussion about her condition. Samuel was in conversation with someone, but she had no idea who the voice was. She waited for the doctors to leave and then she opened her eyes. She grabbed hold of her head and groaned as she felt a pinch when she turned her head too quickly.
– Oh, you're awake already – Samuel said, turning away from the window – marvelous – he smiled, seeing that she gave him a grimace – I'd like to introduce you to someone.
A man in a white doctor's apron who was standing next to him turned to face her. Lea covered her mouth with her hand, the man looked almost identical to Samuel, he just had longer hair and was dressed differently.
– Lea, this is my brother, Ned – Samuel smiled wide when he saw her shocked face – Ned, this is Princess Lea.
Normally, when they called her a princess, she would be able to parry those words, but now she was not able to get anything out of her.
– I think she's getting worse – Samuel said.
Ned walked over to her bed, he had a serene look on his face, so gentle and cheerful. Samuel's complete opposite. He held out his hand to her, and she took it in a reflexive embrace. His hands were warm and gentle. He looked at her for a long time, maybe a little too long, but there was certainly nothing in that look that she could get attached to.
– It's very nice to meet you – he said, squeezing her hand gently, not letting go as he looked at the drip insertion – We'll get rid of it soon – he said, pressing the nurse's call button.
– Usually she talks more – Samuel sat down in the chair, also looking at the girl, he was surprised to see how she reacted to Ned - this is the first time I've seen her so calm.
– Don't upset her – Ned said, stroking her hand, he knew his brother, and knew that he was gifted at being a sarcastic asshole. He was surprised that someone had allowed him to have any dealings with the Princess at all in the first place.
– Are you tired of breathing with a straight nose? – she asked Samuel, giving him a dirty look.
– And no, she's fine, I thought – Samuel laughed aloud.
A nurse came into the room.
– Olivia, can I ask you to bring me a kit so I can remove the venflon and change the dressing? - Ned asked with a turn to the nurse.
– Of course, Doc, I can do it myself – the concerned woman chuckled.
– There is no need – Ned smiled at her.
The woman nodded her head and hurried off to the duty room.
– Doctor? – Lea asked, apparently wearing a doctor's apron, but I think she was still in shock.
– I am a doctor – Ned nodded.
A nurse came back into the room with a tray full of the necessary medical supplies for Ned.
– Thank you – Ned took the tray from her and put it on the bed - it won't hurt you - he said with a smile to Lea who was watching him very closely.
Ned disinfected his hands and put on a pair of gloves, then he began to remove the venflon from Lea. He secured the wound with a bandage. He gently pulled the bandage from her forehead, the stitches all looked very good, someone had taken great care, after all it was the princess's dressing. He had tried for so long to meet her in person, but she never showed up at any of the ceremonies. Now he finally had an opportunity he wouldn't miss. As long as his little brother didn't show up and make things worse.
– It looks all right – he put a new bandage on her wound.
He embraced her hand with his palms, noticing that she was nervously nibbling at the bandage on her hand.
– I don't recognize her – said Samuel – I would like to repeat the CT.
– You're terrible - Ned said - one more word and you'll be sitting in the corridor.
– Would you be able to arrange it? – Lea asked hopefully with a glance at Ned.
– Of course – he nodded cheerfully.
– Over my dead body – Samuel chuckled.
– Then you better behave yourself.
Samuel threw up his hands in a gesture of surrender. He was a bit uncomfortable with the sight of his brother and Lea together. He supposedly knew that his brother wanted to meet her, but until today he had lived believing that their meeting was never going to happen. Maybe he was too naive, or didn't realize that seeing them sitting next to each other, touching, would make him so uncomfortable.
– Why are there so many flowers and balloons in here? – Lea noticed that the room's decoration had changed.
– Everyone thought you weren't here for the inauguration because you had an accident on the way to the ceremony – Samuel laughed with a broad smile.
Lea knew that it wasn't true, how could anyone have told it in such a twisted way?
– If you're worried that your evil plan has failed, let me confirm it – Samuel smiled broadly, he didn't know why he enjoyed teasing the girl but he found it amusing and addictive how she reacted. He spoke to her as if she were someone very close to him, not a princess. Despite them pretending to understand each other, he felt that they understood each other.
– Samuel, you should leave the room – Ned threw out, feeling that Lea was getting nervous. She was not allowed to be nervous and her eyes were bloodshot.
– I'm going to the hall – Samuel stood up and looked at the girl – I'll be outside the door if you want to run away – he left the room and pulled out his phone, he had to inform her father that she was awake.
– Don't listen to him – Ned said as he looked at her. He took her chin in one hand, holding her hand with the other the whole time. You shouldn't be upset – he looked deep into her eyes, a little longer than he should have.
She looked at him, she didn't understand why she let him touch her like that, why he could so quickly and easily break through the wall she used to separate herself from everyone, especially from Samuel, since they were identical. They stared at each other in silence for several long moments.
