Chapter 27

Lea woke up because she could hear some conversations. She opened her eyes and saw that it was already light outside, the clock showed nine. She recognized Samuel's voice, after a moment of thought she came to the conclusion that he was talking to Ned. She sighed heavily and looked around for her clothes, they were lying on the floor. She pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. She had to go to the bathroom, unfortunately there was no way to sneak in unnoticed. As she left the room and reached for the bathroom doorknob, she heard Ned's voice.

– Hi Lea – he said.

He was sitting on the island with Samuel, who hadn't even bothered to get dressed, just sitting there in his boxers. Lea ignored him and closed the bathroom door behind her a little louder than she intended.

– You have to understand her, she's still upset about how you treated her – Samuel said, although deep down he knew that wasn't the case. Leah was just angry at herself, partly because she had to start dating Ned before she realized she actually felt something for Samuel.

– So you're not going to check to see if he's running away? Ned was surprised when Samuel didn't move.

– I know he won't run away – Samuel said calmly and drank his tea.

– I guess I'll never understand it, mom is excited about your wedding – he added after a while.

– Totally unnecessary – Samuel got up and put the cup in the dishwasher.

– Why?

– Because we don't know when it's going to be and if she's even going to be invited – he explained, leaning on the top of the cupboard.

– Well, I guess you won't do that to her.

– The decision is not mine alone – Samuel noted – and I will not make it myself.

Lea came out of the bathroom, expecting Ned to be gone, but to her dismay he was still sitting in the kitchen.

– See you at the hospital to have the stitches removed – Ned said as he got up. He nodded at Lea and left the apartment.

– Did you make up so quickly? – she asked, sitting down on the island and looking at Samuel.

– It's nice to see you in the morning too – he smiled and turned on the kettle. He walked over to her and hugged her.

– Don't be so sweet – she said, but she put her arms around him.

– I'm not sweet, that's just the way I am – he laughed.

– I feel something different – she said suspiciously.

– Because I haven't had a bath yet – he said cheerfully.

– You're terrible – she laughed.

– I was talking to your father.

– Oh – she moaned, that's what she was afraid of – and?

– What are you moaning about? I haven't told him yet – he was outraged, but he kept hugging her – I got permission to leave.

Lea raised her eyebrows in surprise.

– Trip?

– Yes, little one.

– Further than the city?

– To your summer residence in the Caribbean – he added.

– Seriously? Oh God – Lea was relieved, she hadn't been there for a long time, and with all the fuss about the selection of the heir to the throne, she couldn't go – doesn't my father try to bribe me sometimes? – she asked after a moment of thought.
