Ned smiled broadly, nodded and left the room. Lea looked at the infusion and her hand.
– Even though Ned told me not to come in here, this chair is much more comfortable than the bench in the hallway – Samuel entered the room and sat down in the chair.
He looked at the girl, who did not react to his provocation at all. She was lost in her own thoughts and was staring at her hand. He got up from the chair, collected all the notes from the bouquets and put them on the bed next to her.
– I asked you – Ned walked into the room with the results of the test, looked at Samuel and shook his head in disapproval.
– I'm not going to do anything – he shrugged.
– The tests are good – Ned sat down on a stool next to the bed and looked through the tests – you have some elevated parameters, but the drips should even out some of them – he looked at the girl, she was lost in thought. He noticed the papers lying next to her, picked them up and looked through them.
– What have you done to her, I can't believe it – Samuel had a look at the girl who now had her eyes closed. Ned started to read the notes back to her – If you don't help, don't get in the way – Ned said – go eat something.
– Good idea – Samuel got up from the chair and walked out of the room.
– Most of these cards are from people who are important and famous – he muttered to himself.
– I'll have to write them all back on family stationery – she grimaced, opening her eyes – and then make some kind of statement – she groaned.
– Real torture – Ned smiled – considering the fact that statistically you have to issue such statements at least once a month, you should be pretty good at it by now.
– Very funny – Lea gave a sad smile, but it was true. The amount of things she had to get straightened out regarding her escapes was overwhelming.
– Do you know what your father said to me the other day? – Ned asked, but he didn't wait for her to answer before continuing – that if I manage to stop you from escaping, he's going to build a monument to me.
Lea started to laugh.
– I think you deserve a little monument – she admitted.
– Small? In my opinion, it should be at least one to one.
– If it keeps ongoing like this, you'll even get a monument of your own.
– It's enough for me to be able to spend some time with you – Ned said with a smile.
– I'll put your monument in my room as a trophy – she laughed – although your presence seems much more interesting.
– I'm waiting patiently in the queue.
– What kind of queue? – Lea didn't understand – you don't mean the matchmaking list – she raised her eyebrows and looked at him.
– Do you have a different list? – Ned asked, laughing when he saw her looking at him.
– A list doesn't exist.
– Maybe you should create one.
– Maybe I don't need a list – she started to say, but then stopped herself.
Lea didn't know what came over her. Ned seemed fine, and he was talking to her father. She wanted to believe that he had not made a pact with him, because she was afraid that her father was trying to set her up with him.
– So what about that list? – Ned asked with a broad smile on his face, he could see that she had been deep in thought.
– What kind of list? – Samuel entered the room.
– I can tell you who will definitely not be on that list – Lea replied, turning to Ned and ignoring Samuel who was watching her.
– There's no medal for stating the obvious – Ned nodded with a laugh.
– That's what it's like when I leave you for just a moment... – Samuel let out a heavy sigh – there are a couple of reporters hanging around the hospital, I have asked the boys to be careful.
Thanks to the drip, Lea fell asleep a moment later.
– I don't have any idea how you did it – Samuel said with a look at the girl.
– What the hell did I do? – Ned smiled.
– Don't play dumb – Samuel snapped – how is it possible that she's afraid of me and after the first 10 minutes of meeting you accepted her as her best friend.
– Is it jealousy talking?
– I don't know if I want to call it jealousy, I'm just surprised at how she's acting – he shrugged – I have a theory on this, but I'll save it until later.
Samuel shook his head in disapproval of her.
– Tell me you've made a deal with her father...
Ned smiled broadly.
– At first I thought you were making a joke, but I guess I underestimated you – he admitted.
– Why would I be joking?
– I don't know, you've heard all kinds of things from me, and he has his own opinions. And now all of a sudden you come out with something like that and there's no trace of that little rebel – he pointed at the sleeping girl.
– You answered your own question about why it happened.
– You're telling me you're the chosen one?
– Give me one example where you think I'm wrong.
– Exactly, I won't find one, since I know her, this is the first time I've seen Lea behave like this. I hesitate, maybe it's the effects of the concussion.
Ned laughed.
– We'll see – he said – so far not even our resemblance can change this situation.
– Well, that's what amazes me the most – Samuel admitted. He asked himself if the fact that Lea was treating Ned so well meant that she really liked him as well? He was confused, they looked exactly the same, so why was she afraid of him and not of Ned?
– I have to go home and change my clothes – Ned said as he looked at his mobile phone – don't kill each other until I get back, I'll be there in two or three hours to do my duty.
– Aren't you off today?
– I was, but I swapped with Nils. Besides, I think it's probably better for me to be here when Lea wakes up.
– Don't look at me like it's all my fault – Samuel was outraged.
– I'm not talking about blaming, I'm talking about crediting – Ned laughed as he left.
