The things about floods is they all start with a single drop. At the beginning, it seem insignificant, like it can be easy to ignore, but as the rain continue to falls, each drop has a purpose, a story, or a message from the storm brewing above. As more drops fall, the storm becomes harder to ignore, it can become unsafe, or even impossible to weather. The tides begin to rise with a fiery roar inching closer and closer to the shore before, in an instant, they have completely taken over. A uncontrollable flood has formed, and when the flood gates have opened, there is no turning back.
As Briana sat on the side of her and Klaus' shared bed, her legs dangling over the edge with her hands in her lap, the rain drops began to fall. Though her stare was blank, her mind was running rampant. One by one, memories of what she had done over the past few months slowly came back to her, full of emotion she was not ready to face. She could see the faces of the people she slaughtered, she could hear their screams while tasting their blood. She could feel their fear deep in her bones.
As the storm continued, her friends and family came into view. She watched as she attacked them, both physically and with her vicious tongue. She could hear pleas begging for her to come back, begging her fight and let the pain in. Her lip began to tremble as tears formed in her eyes. The flood had come.
Her silent sobs filled the room around her as she placed her hands. As she looked into the darkness of her palms, she suddenly felt it. The warmth around her heart formed as flashes of innocence came before her. She could practically feel her baby in her arms. And suddenly, she was back there, on the day she had given birth.
Her first drop.
She lifted her head with a blank expression as she held back her tears. Her mind spinning out of control. She didn't hear when Klaus stepped into the room, or maybe she couldn't over the noise playing in her brain.
"Briana." He spoke slowly as he walked over to her with caution. She sat perfectly still, the only movement coming from the small tremor in her lip.
Klaus placed his hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner. Despite the sensation that rang down her arm at his soft touch, she didn't move. She couldn't.
"Sweetheart," He spoke softly as he stepped before her, kneeling down to her level so their eyes would meet.
Briana clutched hers shut. She couldn't even look at him, or rather, she couldn't bear to see the way he was looking at her.
"Sweetheart listen to me," Klaus spoke softly as his finger tips grazed over her hands that rested in her lap, "This is going to be hard. It's going to be painful, and it's going to hit you all at once."
Briana bit down on the inside of her lip to hold back her sobs. Her eyes still shut, holding in her stinging tears. Her head bowed lower ever so slightly.
Klaus reached up to stroke her face, "But you're not alone. I'm right here. So.. just let it in. Let the pain in. You're going to be okay. It's all going to be okay."
The softness of his tone mixed with he genuine sincerity of his words were just enough to break through to Briana, just not in the way he had imagined.
"Don't." Briana croaked, her voice hoarse. Her volume just barely audible.
"Sweetheart it's okay," Klaus spoke softly, "It's all going to be--"
"Don't say it." Briana said sharply. Her eyes finally meeting Klaus'.
There was a lingering silence that took over. Both hybrids with their eyes locked on one another.
Briana finally spoke, "How can you possible think any of this is okay?"
Klaus furrowed his brow. He reached to touch her shoulder, but Briana pushed herself up off from the bed. She ran her hands angrily through her hair as she began to pace back and forth. The tears finally fell from her eyes. Her sobs stuck in the back of her throat as she choked them into life.
