______________Mumbai.
Sitting on couch she scrolled through her phone to pass the time, not finding anything interesting she ended up calling her bhabhi as break didn't ended up, as she picked up her phone and dialed Athiya's number. It rang for a few moments before Athiya picked up, her voice warm and familiar."Hey, Tanu! How’s it going?" Athiya greeted, the lively sounds of Colombo and the Asia Cup excitement humming in the background.
"Hey, bhabhi! Oh, nothing much, just unwinding after a long day. How’s Colombo? Enjoying the matches?" Prarthana asked, a hint of envy in her tone as she couldn't join them and she is missing her family too.
"It’s amazing! The energy here is just something else. Rahul and I are having a great time. But enough about us—how are you doing? Anything new?" Athiya replied.
Prarthana chuckled. "Nothing as exciting as the Asia Cup, that’s for sure. But things are good, just a bit hectic with the new job and all."
Athiya's curiosity piqued. "Oh, speaking of the new job, how was your first day?"
"It was alright," Prarthana said, her voice a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction. "A lot to take in, but it went smoothly. The good thing is, I only need to be in the office for a week or so. After gathering all the information and completing the orientation, I can work from home."
"That sounds perfect! A little flexibility never hurts," Athiya remarked.
"Yeah bhabhi, I’m definitely looking forward to it," Prarthana agreed. She hesitated for a moment, then added, "It’ll be nice to have more time at home... though, I guess that’s also making me miss Dev even more."
Athiya picked up on the shift in Prarthana’s tone and gently asked, "How’s everything going with Dev? Are you two managing alright?"
Prarthana sighed, her earlier excitement dimming a bit. "Everything’s fine, bhabhi. We’re both just doing our best, but this long-distance thing is tougher than I thought. I miss him so much, bhabhi. It’s kind of ironic—I was the one who kept telling him that long-distance wouldn’t be that bad and that we could handle it for a few months. But now…" Prarthana said with hint of sadness dripping in her tone.
Athiya smiled knowingly, even though Prarthana couldn’t see it. "It’s always different once you’re actually in it, isn’t it? Missing someone you love is never easy, even when you know it’s temporary. It's something I have already experienced in past during the dating period of our relationship"
"Exactly, did you too experienced" Prarthana admitted, her voice softening as she asked Athiya. "Yeah your bhaiya used to focus on his game more so during tour's we rarely talked and him being the introvert it was always me who calls first but I knew that he took wanted to spend some time but his schedule and time difference never helped much" Athiya said still remembering their dating period.
"I think you are missing him more than him" Athiya chuckled as even Dev is missing her but he was managing any how.
"Yeah bhabhi I just didn’t expect it to hit me this hard. Every little thing reminds me of him. And even though we talk every day, it’s not the same as having him here." Prarthana complained with little pout.
"It’s completely normal to feel that way," Athiya reassured her. "But you’re doing great, baccha. Just take it one day at a time, and remember it’s okay to miss him. You two are strong, and this will only make your relationship stronger."
"Thanks, bhabhi," Prarthana said, feeling a bit more comforted. "I just needed to vent, I guess."
"Anytime for my baccha. And hey, maybe when you start working from home, you can plan a quick trip to see him. A little surprise visit could do wonders."
