I was glad he didn't try anything as we sat at the table reading as I turned the pages.
I took a glance at him as I skimmed the page's. I have to admit that his look of pure concentration made him look even more handsome. "You can take a picture of me, it'll last longer." Sebastian said, noticing my glance. Instead of adding anything more to his comment I smacked him on the arm. He didn't flinch. Instead, I notice his face go blank and unfocused before he says "You're a witch."
How could he possibly know that. I haven't told him anything about that. "How would you know?" I asked him losing all interest in the leather book in front of me. "I can smell it." he said as he leaned closer to me. I pulled back at this. I looked him in his green eyes, but they seemed glazed over and not really focusing on anything. He is really starting to creep me out. I try to get off the seat and walk away from him, but he grabs my hand and pulls me back down in the chair.
I just had to pick the table in the back of the library didn't I...
I keep my line of sight away from Sebastian, who is still holding my hand and leaning next to me, as I try and get Ms. O'Donovan's attention.
Before I can yell out her name, however, Sebastian quickly puts his hand over my mouth to shush me. Now i'm upset.
I finally make eye contact with Sebastian in order to glare at him, but I'm shocked by what I see. Instead of his regular moss green eyes his eyes have changed to a bright red color with cat-like pupils and his canines were far more pronounced. He had a pair of black feathered wings on his back, and they were opened wide and seemed to be at least 10 feet across.
I was more shocked than scared at his display. "You smell nice" Sebastian said as he leaned in even closer. I could hear him sniffing as he put his face in the crook of my neck. Okay. This is officially out of hand.
I punched him, with my free hand, as hard as I could in the chest. That definitely knocked him out of it as his wings folded back into (supposed) nonexistence, and his eyes returned to that vibrant green. "Owwww. What was that for?...." he whined.
"Shut up, you perverted boy." I told him with a harsh tone in my voice, yet I don't think he fully remembered what just happened. Keeping my harsh tone I asked him about what just happened. He sheepishly rubbed his neck and replied "I'm sorry Emmaline. My mom has told me that i've been acting like that more often. But it's been mostly in my sleep". I genuinely didn't even know this was going on. Some friend I am...
But if he hadn't invaded my personal space, however, I would've felt a bit more pity for him. Yet I am intrigued. "How long has this been going on?" I ask.
"It doesn't matter, Emmaline. I'm here to help you find info on your four new buddies " he said the word 'buddies' like it was a poison. I decided to focus on the book again but keeping Sebastian's blackouts at the back of my mind. I'll ask him later when he can't make any excuses to change the subject.
Now. The book.
Admittedly, I haven't remembered a single word as I mostly looked at the illustrations. I looked at Sebastian hoping he read it and can tell me about it. He met my gaze and immediately leaned back in his chair with a straight face and said "You didn't read a single page." I nodded. He sighed as he leaned forwards once again and began to explain.
"By what I read and what I know The Harbinger's are a group of the worst of the worst in existence. By that I mean they're some of the most powerful and most dangerous beings to exist. Their leader is the primordial of Death, Tristesse LaMort. She's the ruler of the underworld so not many other beings tend to fuck around with her. In return she's mostly neutral in mortal and immortal affairs, but not when it comes to death or her imprisonment deep in the Earth". I wanted to ask him why she may have been imprisoned, but he continued before I could ask.
"Second is the kitsune/spirit of Destruction, Nerium Kagezaki. It's said that her mother is "Mother of the Moon" or Countess Aurora Gray. While her father is the primordial of Evil and Darkness, Kuro-Yami. It's also said that since she was brutally murdered along with her twin brother Casimir and now deeply desires the destruction of everything. She was imprisoned in the deepest pit of Tartarus." Once again before I could ask anything he continued.
"Third is the revenant of Pestilence, Claudius Gair. She looks sick, she is sick, yet she is the most passive in the group. She was a daughter of the prestigious Gair clan who were disappointed by having a sickly, female child. They tried almost everything they could to try and get rid of her, but Claudius was clever and knew how to use magic well even at a young age. So the heads of the Gair clan tried to kill her, but it failed. So they banished her to "foreign lands". She was imprisoned deep in the ruins of an ancient hospital". I've given up trying to ask anything until he finished and he continued anyway.
"Finally, the valkyrie of War, Erna Ragnhildr. She loves everything that has to do with war. Whether it's fighting, planning, bloodshed, or even arguing; she loves it. It's said that she used to be the queen of the valkyries but was overthrown because she was much too bloodthirsty and would kill anyone whether they deserved it or not. The only times she would ever be truly calm was when she was in battle, asleep, or planning for battle. She was imprisoned in the depths of Valhalla". My god that was a lot of speaking, but I surprisingly listened intently to every single word.
"Are you done?" I ask him as he takes a few deep breathes. To my dismay he shakes his head. Their is still more to this.
Well I shouldn't complain this is exactly what I asked for......
"I'm still not done." Sebastian said as he finally regained his composure. I didn't try to object.
"According to the legend in the book all four of them met together and became close friends. This was when thay became The Harbinger's as when they were together all of their contempt grew and amassed into a desire for the apocalypse. It's said that over a thousands of years ago they succeeded and managed to destroy a huge portion of the mortal plane of existence but they were stopped by The Protector's. They were then imprisoned, in their own respective "jail cells", with the assistance of the primordial of Purity and Light, Astrea Aether. Now I'm finished". That was a lot of information for one pair of lungs.
Sebastian leaned back looking slightly exhausted. But now I didn't feel that tired anymore. My mind was just too busy after soaking in all of that new information. Ms. O'Donovan was still sitting at her desk in the front of the library completely unaware of everything. She was utterly bored and she was thinking about kittens and what she should have for dinner. I still remember about asking about Sebastian's blackouts.
I'll ask him when we were about to leave.
Oh wait.
What time is it?
I look at the big clock on the wall behind us and see that it's....5:45.
Alright, if I remember it right the regular dismissal time is 4 p.m. and the detention dismissal time is 6p.m. It took me an hour to walk here and around an hour to run to school. The library doesn't close until ten at night, so I should start to leave around 6 o' clock so that way my mom won't worry. Anyway, I have fifteen-no- twelve minutes left.
I look at Sebastian who looks at me in return. "Do you have to leave in a few?" he asks. I nod in reply.
"I'll go with you since I live a few blocks from your house" he says getting up from the chair and stretching his limbs. I don't accept or object his statement as I get up to reshelve the book in the Ancient History section. Although, I'm still kind of upset about everything that happened today I do feel better since coming to the library and spending time with Sebastian.
I put the leather-bound book back on the shelf and look at the clock again. 10 minutes left.
I sigh and get back to the table to get my stuff together.
I put on my leather jacket and make sure everything is in my school bag. Sebastian has walked off to get his things which were at the table on the opposite of the library.
I walk towards the library entrance and wave a goodbye to Ms. O'Donovan and wait at the double doors for Sebastian. He sees me waiting at the entrance and starts to walk towards me.
"Goodnight, Cynthia." he says with a wave and a wink to Ms. O'Donovan. She blushes and thinks: Goodnight, handsome
Oh god. Please don't tell me he banged the librarian. I have so much to ask him, as we walk....
Anyway, I opened the entrance door and we walked out together and began walking.
I'm dreading seeing my mother, Penelope, and David after the day I just had.
At least the sunset is nice.
