"Emmaline wake up or I'll blast you out of your bed." Penelope said.
Penelope is my sister and she is just the worst. She thinks that just because she's a mage she can boss me around. Sure, she is older but that's not the point. The point is that she is a pain for me so i'll be a pain for her...
I kept my eyes closed and pretend that I'm still sleeping.
"You really want to test me?" she says in her annoying high pitched voice.
Before I could even think about what to do next she used her stupid magic to, literally, blast me out of my comfy bed."Oh come on." I groaned as I got up from the floor after hitting the wall. I noticed a small crack where my face hit the wall...
Great, now I'll have to fix that.As I picked myself up from the floor I turned my head to Penelope, who had a big and smug smile on her face. I could hear her thoughts too...
Bet I taught you how to treat Penelope Brianna VandermillYes I can hear the thoughts of people around me. Get over it.
Anyway, I wanted to punch the blonde right out her hair. But before I could do that she said...
"You're running late for your first day at school, you know."Oh. Right. School...
I forgot about that one thing.I ran out of my room with some clothes and into the bathroom. I then took a hurried shower and put on my undergarments and jeans with a t-shirt. I left out of the bathroom and rushed back to my room to put on my boots and quickly combed and brushed my short and curly brown hair. After that I grabbed my leather jacket and my bag.
I ran out the house without so much as a wave to Penelope, my mother, or my stepfather, David.
When I was out in the fresh breeze I took a second to inhale the smell of lavender and rain.Wait...rain? Shit.
I didn't have time to go back inside and search for my umbrella, nor did I have the magical capability to use an efficient umbrella spell...
Guess I'll have to run.As I ran past the lots of people that tend to crowd the avenue I see someone incredibly peculiar.
A woman with white hair that reached half way down her back. She wore a white necktie-like ribbon around the neck of a gray button-up shirt that was tucked into a white flower printed pencil skirt and gray loafers. I couldn't help but stop and stare in awe.
She radiated tons of power...More power than I could ever dream of having. She walked with a cane that had a skull placed at the top. As she got closer to me I noticed that her eyes were the color of a fresh skeleton, large and doe-like, but seemed dull and lifeless. She wore a tight choker with a small skull on it...
The more I noticed her specific details the more I noticed how out of place she was and that she was staring right at me...
The thing that really bothered me was the fact that she was easily at least six feet tall yet no one seemed to pay attention or notice her, nor could I hear her thoughts. I could hear everyone else's but hers.I decided to stop gawking and head to school. The rain was starting to come down.

I was at least an hour late for school. Now I have detention after school...
Just the greatest start to a day. Plus when I walked into the classroom I could hear everyone's thoughts of persecution. Well everyone minus Ashley Haeward, she's pretty much one of my only friends here.
While the teacher, Ms. Hunter, stared holes into my back I sat at my desk."Now that little miss Jones has arrived. Why don't we ask her a question?" Ms. Hunter said as she stared at me.
Piece of cake. No one else knew that I could hear and read their thoughts and minds.
"When was Gilligan the Grand made High Minister?" Ms. Hunter questioned.
I could hear nearly everyone mentally answer 1985."1985" I answered with my most confident voice. She looked a little astonished at my reply. I guess I got it right because right after that she said "Very good, Ms. Jones."
The rest of the class time was spent rather sparingly. Just notes upon more notes. Everyone ran out of the class when the bell rang. But before me and Ashley could make our escape, Ms. Hunter stopped me with a question."How did you know about Gilligan the Grand?" she asked. I had to think of an answer quickly, I didn't want her to find out that I could read minds. "I just heard about him a lot " I replied. "Oh, okay I just wanted to know." she said back, even though she tried to hide it, I could still see a questioning look in her eye. Her thoughts didn't help either.
"We should be going now." Ashley said as she rushed me out of the classroom and into the emptying school hallway. I stood transfixed on the door for a few seconds until I noticed Ashley was trying to get my attention."Terra to Emmaline." she said as she snapped her fingers in my face. I smacked her hands away and started walking to our next class.
Ashley responded to my reaction with a quick smack to my right arm as she started walking with me as well. You're a jerk, you know that: her thoughts said. Yes I do know I mentally replied. Our next class was...
Magic Camp...great.Just great.
