Sunlight...

That shit is bright, and the only thing I can see.

Covering my eyes I sit up in the bed, and feel hair? Looking down I see lots of black hair. I follow the hair with my eyes and am greeted with an asleep Sebastian. When did I get into the bed? That's when I remember that I fainted after I completed the ritual. I look down and see that I'm still wearing the clothes that I fainted in, at least Sebastian didn't take the initiative and undress me...

Did the ritual work, though?

I get up and out of the bed as quietly as I can without disturbing the incubus. I guess I'll have to ask Tristesse or Cynthia. I close the door behind me and make my way to Tristesse's shared room with Erna and knock lightly.

"Come in." I open the door and close it behind me.

Tristesse is sitting at the desk chair while Erna is snoring in the bed.

"Do you not sleep, or...?" I ask the death incarnate.

"I don't need to, but I do get bored."

"Oh, well I just wanted to ask you if the ritual worked..."

"It did."

Really?

"How would you know that?"

"The Faustian contract seal is on the incubus, so it should be on you too."

"Ah." I say since I don't know what that means exactly, but that sounds good, I guess.

"Do you think I should tell my mom this, like, through a letter or something?" I notice Tristesse stiffen a little when I mention my mom. Why?

"Tristesse?"

"You probably should not."

"Why not?!" Why shouldn't I tell my mom about this...

"Are you not worried over your stepfather or stepsister finding the letter before your mother does?" She pushes some of her white/silver hair behind her ear.

"Well-" Tristesse silences me with a raised hand.

"That is just what I think," she pushes more hair behind her ear "You can if you want to..."

She mumbles something else under her breath.

"What?"

"Nothing," she shakes her head a little before continuing. "Go talk to Cynthia about the contract."

"Okay, see you later Tristesse." She waves her hand a little as a goodbye.

As I leave the room I hear a sigh and a rustling of sheets, and hear "You are just creepy, you know that". Erna and I share the same opinion on Tristesse and her sleeping habits. I follow Cynthia's thoughts to the last room at the end of the corridor. I knocked on the door, and opened it even though I didn't get an immediate response. I was met with the sight of an extremely focused Cynthia sitting cross-legged on the bed. Her hair was out of its traditional ponytail and she was engrossed in, what I could guess, her family Grimoire. She hadn't seemed to notice my entrance until I poked her shoulder, startling her out of her reading and causing her to immediately shut the Grimoire with a loud bang.

"Ah!" She squeaked as she jumped. "Emmaline, you gave me a fright!"

"I'm sorry!" I backed out of her personal space.

"So," She put the Grimoire to her side and fumbled with putting her glasses on. "What have you come to ask me." Cynthia's usual cheery tone was back in her voice, complete with a smile.
