I was cautious of puddles as I walked to the library that was one half a mile from my house...
It took around an hour to get to the library. I immediately sat down after the nice librarian, Ms. O'Donovan, waved a hello. She was in her late thirties with wavy dark brown hair in a ponytail. She noticed my rather sour mood the moment I stormed in. She didn't try to say anything to me, which I appreciated greatly. I sat in silence for a few minutes because I was both exhausted and upset.
After the minutes passed I decided to get up and look for any information on 'The Harbinger's'. Quite the intriguing name, it sounds like a rock band. But before I could start my research by asking Ms. O'Donovan I was interrupted by a pair of moss green eyes walking towards me. Fuck, of all people on all days why in the hell did it have to be him. Sebastian Mara, the man whore.
I don't even mean it as a joke, he literally is a man whore. Though he does have a good reason...he is an incubus. He was undoubtedly handsome with long, tousled black hair, a tall, slender yet fit frame, and green eyes that seemed to glow on their own. He was certainly entrancing if it weren't for the fact that I've known him for years and know that he is a smartass and a demon. He was the first person that I met whose mind I couldn't read. We first met when I was seven and he was six years old if I can remember it right......
We were both attending the same elementary school and we were put in the same class. I could hear everyone thinking about being nervous or how they were going to be the best, but when it came to the little black-haired boy I heard nothing. I found this interesting so we hung out a lot together, but when middle school came along and he used a spell his mother taught him, this caused him to tell me about how his being an incubus and me to tell him about my telepathy. I think it was a truth spell, now that I think about it. So now we both know each other's secrets. I met Ashley and we started to drift apart.....just a little though.
"So, Emmaline is actually doing research? Quite an interesting development." Sebastian said with a hint of mischief. His voice snapped me out of my reminiscing. He always annoyed me, and he still does. "Go away Sebastian." I said not looking him in the eye. I suddenly felt him use his fingers to gently raise my head and meet eye contact. Damn. I could feel my cheeks flushing at his touch. It's wasn't because I was attracted to him, or anything, but he used his natural ability of relaxing others through *ahem* sexual arousal...
This has always been extremely annoying, but it certainly works. Just one touch and other girls (and boys) would be like a puddle in his hands. But I am not that easy, not for him or anyone. I could probably ask him about this whole Harbinger's thing but I really don't want to ask him...
"Alright, now why don't you tell me what you're looking for?" Sebastian said as he let my head go and stared into my eyes. Great, now he asks me he isn't about to let this go anytime soon. But at the same time I don't want to have to go on a scavenger hunt in this huge library. Fuck it.
"Do you know about The Harbinger's? I asked hoping he won't have any smart ass comments. For a second he looked slightly anxious before saying "Really? Them. I guess that would be over there in Ancient History". He directed me to the section with a point of a finger. I got up from my seat and walked to where he directed me. Ms. O'Donovan followed me with her eyes and thought: Good job, Emmaline.
Alright, it's not my fault I mostly come here for the comics and manga, but those are the best things at the library. I picked up the first book that I saw on the shelf and flipped through the pages. When I didn't find anything that looked interesting I put it back and decided to look at the entire shelf of books.
Suddenly, Tristesse's words rang through my head "Trust your intuition". I decided to listen to her words and trust myself. I picked out a leather-bound book that seemed to look a little worn out. It didn't seem to have a title on the cover or the spine. I decided to sit back down at the table to read it or at least look through it. But when I turned around to walk back I bumped into Sebastian. "You're adorable when you're focused." he said in a flirtatious tone. He must have walked behind me while I was looking for the book. Without speaking I pushed him out of my way and walked back to the table.
As I sat down I opened the book to the first page. Sebastian sat across from me and looked at the book. "Why do you wanna know about those guys anyway?" he asked. I couldn't concentrate with him speaking. Should I tell him the truth? It could help...
"I sort of met them, earlier." I replied to his question. His jaw dropped slightly as he gave me a shocked expression.
"What?" I said defensively.
"Nothing. It's just..... Do you realize just how shitty your luck must be?" he said looking shell-shocked.
"Tell me about it..." I said rubbing my temples. I will never be able to read this book.
"You know what? I'll help you." he said standing up to sit in the chair next to me. Knowing that he wouldn't take "no" for an answer I sighed and let him take the seat next to me.
This is gonna take awhile...
