Chapter 70: Pyrrhic Lead

Proxim had Fari and Ainsley Prime's neck around both their hands, while Sehki pressed forward against the spiraling wind.

"Deal?"

"Tell Lorena Sanchez to hand over the data she acquired from my laboratory, or Coastrosity will suffer the same fate."

"What?"

He got a called his powers answered and put on speaker.

"You met Proxim?"

"They were handing out Scope Switches and Sven took one. I chased them down to a facility underground, but when I got there, they put up a self-destruct on the whole facility! I'm swinging through NAGA now!"

"No deal then!" He gripped his fingers to summon Ophiuchus and devour the burst of power from the EMP against the menace's armored plating holding it back.

"Fine, then, Heath's protection will about to become its undoing."

Ainsley's father cracked his neck knuckles, recovering enough strength to feel Proxim's actions overfeeding the tree with negative energy.

"It'll be enough to wipe out everyone in NAGA," sliding all of his captors into his elbows, clapping as a portal appeared behind him, slowly falling inside.

Sehki narrowed the space to form splinters to break the hand holding Fari free, snatching her body with an extension of her limbs, with Candy and Ainsley holding him from behind to try and break Proxim's control over both of them.

"Take my hand!"

Fari mustered the power to try and fight until she looked back to see several hands behind Qian protecting the young girl from the prince and warrior's, while she let go of Sehki.

"Sehki, Wali, save the Nuckelherd, please!"

Wali crushed through the Void to swing above everyone and try to grab his former ally and enemy when the miasma spread around him.

He pulsated and bore dread upon his previous uncontrollable state attempting to overwhelm him. Sehki spread several tendrils to purify him and get Fari, Ainsley Prime, and Qian free but the malevolent entity seemed to obtain an force of pressure able to halt his shadows back long enough for the portal to take Proxim's hostages in, and Gorgon jumping in after them.

Sehki made sure Wali was safe, punching the floor with the rage victory was snatched away from them after all their hard work.

"This isn't over yet! If we don't stop, the corruption might kill us all!" He looked around for a way to keep everyone alive, settling on a solution he didn't think he'd say before. "Sehki, make a shadow of my tree!"

"To make it big enough and erase the Void energy? I don't think I have enough magic to pull that off!"

Ainsley and Candy attached themselves to him.

"Then we'll share ours."

"We won't let them win either."

He put his fears aside and conjured a dark reflection using its shade and his own magic to amplify it enough to slam and absorb most of the essence, finding much more than he expected, stumbling even as the three pumped their own supply.

Bodin joined them despite feeling he couldn't do enough, and Dango followed, trying to use her snakes to feast on some of the energy.

Wali bit his mouth, holding onto his sanity to support them, and Dango forced Paleun to get them much to his chargin. Heath attempted to reduce the spread and isolate it to the top, watching their efforts slowly taking effect.

Those even born in Fenghuang and Umbra supporting us: so this is what Sybil and Quermas envisioned of the next generation.

"It's almost there! Everyone pull!"

All seven students yanked as hard as they could, shattering most of the energy in one go. While they all fell, Heath punched the air, hurling the remaining energy out of the building and into the air, where it exploded into nothing.

Cree looked up to see the explosion while Bella jumped to knock out a few more Serpens Constains.

Sven was laughing maniacally, being restrained by the defense force giving him anesthesia to sedate him.

For now, it was over.

Lorena arrived to figure out what was going on. While Heath informed the active ruler to tend the injured, she offered to take them to the site Proxim was talking about: an abandoned facility with several Scope Switches destroyed alongside medical equipment.

"This was the facility we used for Ainsley's birth. We kept it hidden from the public in case of any attempted assassinations. Almost no one was aware of this except for, no."

"Any of the Planetary Presidents, their Inner Circle, or the First Spouses," Ainsley figured.

"So we have a lead who Proxim is at least," Sehki said. "But that means we're dealing with someone stronger than Lumin. We're going to stop them, don't worry." 

Heath recognized on his own, getting rid of it could've resulted in him being gravely injured had he used just his magic to contain the magic.

I've lost four parents. I just don't want Ainsley to lose theirs.

"Shakuheld...no, Sehki. Thank you."

He turned, confused, comprehending and gaining an egotistical smile. "Acceptance?" He hugged Ainsley. "He doesn't completely hate me!"

Lorena's eyes moved narrow at him shaking his friend. 

"You're acting like a worried boyfriend hoping their partner's parents won't like them."

"Lemme have this," pulling her in to suffocate them both with the brief joy, noting he had another promise he was worried he had to keep.

At Celestial University, the members of the Nuckelherd were still comatose from their battle, most of which Bethany considered was thanks to their inconsistent nourishment.

Mako stood over Easel's sleeping body, summoning a Starlight portal that sucked her into it alongside several Scope Switches.

"The world needs heroes. And you'll be our perfect villains."

He vanished as Mechion arrived into the room to catch them missing, calling Terra Safety to search around for them.

Heath took time to recharge in using his magic to repair some damages while parading the students as heroes, while Lorena and Ainsley remained hesitant for what was to come.
