The drive back to the Kim estate was quiet.

Taehyung sat in the back of his car, eyes closed, head tilted slightly to the side. The city lights slipped by the window like slow raindrops. Yet no matter how much he tried to clear his mind, the image of Jungkook—curled up in his coat, mumbling about cookie dreams—refused to leave.

“Such a ridiculous boy,” he muttered to himself, lips twitching.

Kim Mansion

The Kim residence stood like a palace of shadows and silence. Grand, elegant, and echoing with the kind of wealth that didn’t need to shout. Just stepping inside felt like stepping into a cold museum—marble floors, towering staircases, still air.

Taehyung removed his coat and handed it to the housekeeper before heading toward the dining room.

His mother was already seated at the long table, reading a hardcover novel with a wine glass beside her. Mr. Kim sat at the other end, half-distracted by his phone.

“You’re late,” Mrs. Kim said, not looking up.

“I stayed at the office,” Taehyung replied simply, walking toward his chair.

“You dropped my bunny off, I assume?”

Taehyung paused. “Yes.”

Mr. Kim raised an eyebrow. “Bunny?”

Mrs. Kim sipped her wine. “Jungkook. Our new assistant. He’s rather adorable.”

“Hm,” Mr. Kim grunted. “Hopefully not another weak one.”

“He’s not weak,” Taehyung said before he could stop himself.

Both parents looked at him.

Taehyung cleared his throat. “He stayed late. Finished everything without being told.”

Mrs. Kim smiled faintly. “Did he talk your ear off?”

Taehyung sat down with a sigh. “He doesn’t stop talking.”

“And?”

“…It wasn’t… entirely annoying.”

Mr. Kim smirked behind his glass. “Careful. Sounds dangerously close to affection.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes and focused on his food.

But he didn’t argue.

🛏️ Later That Night — Taehyung’s Room

The room was dark, lit only by a soft amber lamp. Minimalist, sharp, clean. Not a single speck out of place. Just like Taehyung liked it.

He undid the buttons of his black shirt, letting it fall open as he walked toward the wardrobe. His fingers moved automatically to grab a fresh t-shirt—but his mind was far from blank.

Because the moment he pulled off the shirt—

That face popped into his brain.

“Don’t mess up.”
“Sounds like a toxic work environment.”
“You should try therapy, you know.”

Taehyung froze halfway through putting on his new shirt.

“…Pfft.”

A sound escaped him—small, breathy… a laugh.
