The glass doors of Vantae Corporation slid open with their usual cold hiss, but the atmosphere inside was anything but ordinary. Eyes shifted, whispers rose, and every passing employee stole glances at Jungkook as he walked quickly toward the elevators.
It had been two days since the Paris trip, and though the loudest noise of the rumors had settled, the whispers had not. Screens still lit up with articles, hashtags still trended, and yet... Jungkook pretended not to notice.
His small hands gripped his files tightly, lips pressed in a determined line. Just focus on work, he told himself. Ignore them.
But when he finally reached Taehyung's office, relief washed over him. The heavy door opened to reveal the CEO seated at his desk, tall frame bathed in the pale light of morning. His suit was perfect as always, tie sharp, hair neatly parted-but there was something different in his eyes.
They weren't cold. They weren't distant.
They softened the second they landed on him.
"You're late, bunny," Taehyung said smoothly, lips quirking ever so slightly.
Jungkook's eyes widened. He shut the door quickly and marched toward the desk. "I'm not late! It's exactly nine o'clock," he defended, voice louder than usual. "And stop calling me that at work."
Taehyung leaned back in his chair, studying him like a puzzle he enjoyed solving. "You didn't complain in Paris."
"That was... different." Jungkook huffed, setting the files on the desk a little harder than necessary. "Here, people already gossip too much. If you-if you keep teasing me like that, they'll think it's true."
"And what if it is?" Taehyung asked, tone low, deliberate.
Jungkook froze. His ears turned pink instantly. "Mr. Kim..."
The CEO smirked faintly at the sight of the boy's flustered expression. Teasing him had become his favorite indulgence-like a hidden pleasure only he was allowed.
But this time, Jungkook didn't shrink back completely. He squared his shoulders, took a deep breath, and looked him straight in the eye.
"I'm not the same as before," he said firmly. "I won't run away just because you say things like that. But... that doesn't mean you can act however you want."
For a moment, silence hung in the air.
Taehyung blinked once, caught off guard. Then, slowly, a genuine smile tugged at his lips. The kind that reached his eyes.
"Paris changed you," he murmured, almost to himself.
"No." Jungkook shook his head, cheeks red but eyes unwavering. "I just... realized that if I keep getting scared, people will walk all over me. I'm not going to let that happen anymore."
Taehyung's chest tightened unexpectedly. Pride swelled in him-warm, unfamiliar, but undeniable.
He stood from his chair, moving closer until the desk no longer separated them. Jungkook instinctively stepped back, bumping into the edge of the bookshelf. Taehyung's shadow loomed over him, but his voice was gentler than ever.
"Good," Taehyung said, tilting his head slightly. "That's exactly the Jungkook I want to see."
Jungkook swallowed hard. His heart hammered against his ribs, but he didn't back down. He lifted his chin, trying to look unfazed-though his trembling hands betrayed him.
