The Louvre was quieter than Jungkook expected.
Maybe because it was early afternoon on a weekday, or maybe because it was Paris, and time didn't move as fast here. The air inside was cool, still, and carried the scent of polished floors and old frames.
Jungkook tilted his head back, eyes wide.
The vaulted glass ceiling of the atrium let in soft light that spilled over the marble floors. Tourists were scattered in polite clusters, murmuring in multiple languages. No one shouted. No one rushed.
It felt like the kind of place where even silence wore a suit.
Taehyung walked beside him, hands tucked into the pockets of his long black coat. He looked perfectly at home-stoic expression, clean jawline, eyes flicking from one masterpiece to another like they were stock evaluations.
Jungkook, on the other hand, looked like a wide-eyed art student who'd just stepped into heaven.
"This place is huge," Jungkook whispered, clinging to the museum map. "It's gonna take years just to find the Mona Lisa."
Taehyung didn't look at the map. "We'll get there."
"You've been here before?"
"Once. With my sister."
Jungkook paused mid-step, glancing at him.
Taehyung didn't elaborate.
Jungkook didn't push.
Instead, they moved deeper into the museum. Past halls of Greek sculpture. Past crowds gathered around statues of marble gods. Past painted ceilings that looked like portals to other realms.
It wasn't until they stepped into the Italian Renaissance gallery that Jungkook slowed.
Taehyung noticed it immediately.
Jungkook stood in front of a large painting-something vibrant and golden, with delicate brushstrokes and two lovers in the middle of a dramatic embrace. The girl's eyes were closed. The boy's were full of something fierce and tender.
"You like this one?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook nodded slowly, his voice quiet. "Yeah. It feels like... they waited a long time to be that close."
Taehyung looked at the painting.
Then back at Jungkook.
> He wasn't looking at the painting anymore.
Jungkook turned, catching his stare. "You okay?"
Taehyung blinked, clearing his throat. "Fine."
"You were staring."
"It's a public gallery."
"You and these public spaces," Jungkook muttered under his breath.
They walked further, into another room where the air smelled faintly of varnish and ancient fabric. Jungkook admired everything. The textures. The strokes. The light on canvas.
He moved from one piece to another, his fingers twitching like he wanted to draw them all.
Taehyung watched him, arms crossed, more focused on the curve of Jungkook's lips when he smiled than the brushstrokes on any wall.
