The sunlight had started to shift—longer shadows stretched across the apartment floor, golden light mellowing into something deeper, softer. The kind of light that made people feel quiet without realizing it.

Taehyung stood near the front door, coat in one hand, the other brushing faint lint off his sleeve.

Across the room, Jungkook leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed over his chest, watching him with unreadable eyes.

“You’re leaving?” Jungkook asked, voice light, trying too hard to sound casual.

“I have to check in with my team before the day ends.”

“Oh.”

A pause.

Taehyung didn’t move.

Jungkook shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “Thanks for staying.”

Taehyung nodded once. “You shouldn’t cook while you’re sick.”

“You shouldn’t break into sick employees’ apartments.”

“You left the door unlocked.”

“Still,” Jungkook said, cracking a soft smile, “you surprised me.”

“You surprise me,” Taehyung replied, too quietly.

Jungkook blinked.

But before he could answer, Taehyung turned to slip on his coat.

He adjusted the collar with slow, practiced hands. Everything about him looked so... composed. Distant. Back in CEO mode.

Except for the sketchbook still resting on the desk.

His fingers had grazed that drawing too many times before closing it.

“I’ll work from home tomorrow,” Jungkook said suddenly. “So I don’t get anyone else sick.”

Taehyung paused at the door. “…Okay.”

“I’ll send over your schedule. And reports. And maybe a bunny meme. But only the tasteful kind.”

Taehyung turned the knob slowly. “Don’t send anything with glitter.”

“Too late. It’s scheduled.”

Another quiet pause.

The door creaked slightly open.

Jungkook took a small step forward, arms dropping to his sides.

“Will you…” he started, then stopped. His voice was softer. “Will you let me know when you get home?”

Taehyung didn’t turn back right away.

Then:

“I will.”

Jungkook smiled. Just barely. “Okay.”

Taehyung looked over his shoulder then—one last glance. Not cold. Not guarded. Just still.

Something in his eyes lingered like he wanted to say more.

But instead, he stepped outside.

The door shut behind him with a soft, final sound.
