The breeze had softened, but Jungkook’s heart was still fluttering like the wind might carry it away if he wasn’t careful.

He glanced sideways again, sneaking a look at Taehyung—dark suit, eyes distant, lips unreadable. A man carved from marble, cool and sharp, and yet—

Jungkook wanted to poke him.

He smirked.

“What?” Taehyung asked, not even turning.

“Nothing,” Jungkook said. “You just look like you're brooding over the meaning of life.”

Taehyung hummed. “I’m brooding over the meaning of inviting guests.”

Jungkook chuckled. “That bad, huh?”

“They talk too much. Drink too much. Pretend too much.”

“You could’ve said no to the party.”

“My mother would have murdered me. In Prada heels.”

Jungkook laughed softly, then turned to lean fully against the railing, back to the city. “You know,” he said slowly, voice dropping just a little, “I think you like having me around.”

Taehyung looked at him now.

Jungkook grinned. “Not love. Not even like-like. Just… tolerate in a way that makes your eye twitch less.”

“I tolerate very few things.”

“And yet you let me talk. Let me sing. Let me touch your tie. Let me put bunny stickers on your planner—”

“I peeled them off.”

“I put them back when you weren’t looking.”

Taehyung blinked.

“You little—”

“Menace?” Jungkook finished for him. “I accept the title. But only if you say it fondly.”

Taehyung stepped closer.

Not much. Just enough to bridge a fraction of that space between them.

“Fondly is pushing it.”

Jungkook’s breath caught.

The breeze tugged at his bangs. His fingers tightened slightly on the cold railing behind him.

He looked up at Taehyung, lips curved.

“You know what I think?” he asked softly.

“I don’t care,” Taehyung said—too quickly, too flatly.

Jungkook leaned in just slightly. Not close enough to cross the line. But enough to whisper in that cocky little way that always made Taehyung’s fingers twitch.

“I think…” he said, eyes twinkling, “you like being watched. You knew I was staring at you when I walked in, didn’t you?”

Taehyung didn’t flinch.

Didn’t move.

But he didn’t deny it either.

“Everyone stares at me,” he replied coolly.

“Yeah,” Jungkook said, still smiling. “But I think you only noticed me.”

The words floated between them—soft, bold, impossible to grab back.
