Jungkook was still wiping his imaginary sweat after the hallway escape when he turned the corner toward his desk—
—and almost crashed face-first into Eunchae.

“Oh,” she squeaked, stepping back with wide eyes. “It’s you.”

Jungkook blinked. “Uh… yeah. It’s me.”

They stood awkwardly for a second. Her eyes raked him from head to toe, clearly not impressed.

“You’re the new assistant?”

Jungkook gave a tight smile. “Yep. That’s me. The assistant. Jungkook.”

He tried to pass by, but she stepped closer, flipping her hair. “Don’t get too comfortable,” she said sweetly. “Oppa doesn’t really keep people around long.”

Jungkook raised a brow. “And yet… you’re still here?”

Jungkook’s ears turned red instantly.

“I don’t,” he muttered. “Just curious. You know. Since she was acting like she lived here or something.”

Taehyung leaned back in his chair, eyes fixed on him.

“She’s my grandmother’s adopted daughter. She’s staying with us for a month.”

Jungkook nodded slowly. “…And does she always bring you lunch?”

Taehyung narrowed his eyes. “You really don’t care, huh?”

Jungkook glared at his laptop. “I’m just making conversation. Calm down, Mr. CEO.”

Taehyung smirked faintly, and Jungkook felt the heat crawl up his neck. Why did it suddenly feel like he’d lost that exchange?

After Hours

The clock hit 6:00 PM.

Jungkook stretched his arms over his head, groaning slightly. His back cracked in three different places. “Ahh… I think my spine filed for retirement.”

Taehyung closed his file and stood, adjusting his cufflinks. “I’ll drop you off.”

Jungkook blinked. “You don’t have to—”
