The morning at Vantae Corporation started as usual, or at least that’s what Jungkook thought. He arrived bright and early, clutching his coffee, humming softly under his breath. His heart still felt warm from his mother’s advice the night before, though he was trying not to think too hard about it.

The moment he entered the CEO’s office, he was met with the sight of Taehyung already at his desk, flipping through a file. The older man’s sharp suit and expression could’ve frozen anyone else in their tracks, but Jungkook had long stopped being afraid.

“Good morning, Mr. Kim,” Jungkook greeted cheerfully, placing the coffee down on the desk with a little flourish. “I brought you the good one, not the bitter one you hate.”

Taehyung’s eyes flickered up, softening almost imperceptibly. “Mm. Sit.”

Jungkook plopped onto his chair, immediately leaning over his desk. “You’re welcome, by the way. I had to fight three interns for this coffee.”

Taehyung’s lips twitched, but he stayed quiet. His silence didn’t bother Jungkook anymore; it just made him chatter more.

But before Jungkook could start another round of playful complaining, there was a knock at the door. The manager entered, followed by a tall man in a tailored suit.

The moment Jungkook’s eyes landed on the newcomer, he froze.

“Jungkook?” the man said, blinking in surprise.

“Seojun-hyung?” Jungkook’s voice cracked with disbelief.

---

The whole room seemed to still. Jungkook stood quickly, eyes wide. The tall man—Lee Seojun—broke into a warm smile and walked over, ignoring Taehyung’s sharp gaze entirely.

“I can’t believe it! After all these years…” Seojun chuckled, reaching out to ruffle Jungkook’s hair like old times.

Jungkook laughed, batting his hand away. “Ya, I’m not a kid anymore! What are you doing here?”

Taehyung’s knuckles tightened against his pen. His expression remained unreadable, but there was a dangerous glint in his eyes as he watched the easy familiarity between them.

The manager cleared his throat nervously. “This is Lee Seojun, CEO Kim. He’s one of the representatives from the partner company we’re meeting today.”

Taehyung’s jaw flexed. “I see.” His voice was like ice.

Seojun, however, didn’t notice—or pretended not to. He leaned closer to Jungkook, beaming. “You work here? That’s amazing. I thought you’d be in the arts, though, with your talent…”

Jungkook blushed lightly. “I… I still paint sometimes. But I needed something stable. Eomma and I—”

“Jungkook.”

The single word from Taehyung sliced through their reunion. Both Jungkook and Seojun turned toward him.

“Sit,” Taehyung ordered, his eyes locked on Jungkook. Then he looked at Seojun. “We’ll begin the meeting now.”

The atmosphere instantly shifted.

---

The meeting began, but Jungkook could feel Taehyung’s eyes flickering toward him more than once. His boss’s voice was calm, smooth, professional as always, but there was a sharpness beneath it that made even the board members uncomfortable.
