The car rolled to a stop in front of Jungkook’s apartment building.
The city was buzzing outside, but inside the black-tinted luxury sedan, the silence was strangely intimate.
Jungkook loosened his seatbelt, fingers fumbling a little as he glanced toward Taehyung. “Thanks for dropping me again, Mr. Kim,” he said softly, lips curling in that shy smile that always seemed to undo Taehyung’s carefully built walls. “I could’ve gone by myself, though.”
Taehyung turned his head, his sharp gaze lingering. “It’s late. I don’t want you walking alone after a long flight.” His voice was calm, almost casual, but Jungkook caught the flicker of something deeper in his eyes. Concern. Care.
Jungkook tilted his head, teasing lightly. “You know… you’re starting to sound less like a CEO and more like my driver.”
Taehyung arched a brow. “You enjoy mocking me too much.”
“Maybe,” Jungkook grinned, shifting his gaze away to hide the warmth in his cheeks. “But only because you let me.”
For a moment, Taehyung said nothing. His hand rested on the steering wheel, but his eyes—dark and unreadable—stayed on Jungkook’s face. The streetlight spilled through the window, highlighting the curve of Jungkook’s cheek, his tired but bright eyes, and the soft pout of his lips.
Taehyung leaned slightly closer, his voice dropping to a lower timbre. “Go inside before I decide not to let you go at all.”
Jungkook’s heart skipped. He quickly grabbed his bag and opened the door, mumbling, “Goodnight, Mr. Kim,” before escaping the car too fast for his own good. His ears were burning red as he hurried toward the entrance.
But just before he disappeared inside, he looked back. Taehyung was still there, one hand resting against the open window, watching him with an unreadable expression. Jungkook gave him a small, awkward wave. Taehyung didn’t wave back, but his lips curved—just barely—into the faintest smile.

Inside the Apartment
“Jungkook-ah!” Mrs. Jeon’s voice greeted him warmly the moment he stepped in. She came rushing from the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron. “Finally! My son is back from Paris.”
Jungkook set down his bag, grinning. “Eomma, it wasn’t that long. Just a few days.”
“Still, you look thinner!” She cupped his face, checking him from head to toe like he had been gone for years. “Did you eat properly? Did Mr. Kim treat you well? Did he—”
“Eomma,” Jungkook interrupted, laughing nervously, cheeks turning pink. “Don’t start.”
Mrs. Jeon raised a brow knowingly. “Ah, so he did take care of you. Good. At least one man in this world knows my son’s worth.”
“Eomma!” Jungkook groaned, covering his face with his hands, his ears burning again. “Stop teasing me.”
She chuckled, patting his shoulder. “Fine, fine. But you look happy, Jungkook. Happier than before.” Her eyes softened. “That’s enough for me.”
Jungkook’s smile turned gentler. He hugged her tightly, burying his face against her shoulder. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, baby.”
