The hotel lobby was warm and quiet when they stepped back inside. Rain clung to their coats and hair like glitter, trailing behind them as they moved through the hallway.
Jungkook didn’t say much on the elevator ride up.
Neither did Taehyung.
But their silence felt fuller now. Like something had been added to it, not taken away.
When they entered their room, the lights buzzed on with a soft glow. Paris still glimmered outside the wide glass windows, and their clothes were slightly damp from the walk back. It was late—but not enough for sleep.
“Want tea?” Taehyung asked, already moving to the little kitchenette.
Jungkook kicked off his shoes and nodded. “Sure… Thanks.”
He sat on the edge of the bed, watching as Taehyung carefully filled the kettle, his movements slow and focused. Even the way he set the mugs down felt calm. Collected.
“How are you so calm all the time?” Jungkook asked quietly.
Taehyung looked over his shoulder. “I’m not.”
“But you seem like it.”
“That’s the point.”
Jungkook didn’t answer that. Instead, he pulled his knees up onto the bed and curled into the pillow like a cat, scarf still draped loosely around his neck.
Taehyung brought over two mugs and handed one to him.
“It’s honey chamomile.”
“Wow,” Jungkook blinked. “You’re full of surprises.”
“You thought I drank motor oil?”
“I thought you didn’t do warm beverages unless they were overpriced and in a CEO cup.”
Taehyung sat down beside him, stretching out on the bed as if it were routine now. Their shoulders were close, not touching but near enough to feel each other’s presence. A flicker of warmth passed between them in the shared stillness.
Jungkook took a sip. The tea was actually good. “You should smile more.”
“I do.”
“No, Mr. Kim. That thing you do where your lips twitch once doesn’t count.”
Taehyung didn’t answer. But when Jungkook peeked sideways—
He was smiling.
Just barely.
But it was there.
And it made Jungkook’s heart ache in the best way.
They sat there like that for a while—two shadows against the lamp-lit wall, drinking quietly, letting the warmth sink into their fingers.
And maybe into something deeper.
---
Just as Jungkook stood to put away his mug, there was a knock at the door.
He glanced at Taehyung, who was already standing.
When he opened it, the hotel receptionist stood there—awkward, polite, clearly nervous.
