Brianna's P.O.V.

Brendan and I hop on the tube behind Royse's pontoon and I tell Brendan what to do. "Okay, so what you're gonna do is grab on to these latch thingies and keep your head up. Lake water up your nose is no fun. If you fall, put your arms up so other people know you're there." He nods and says, "Got it."

We take off and I yell above the engine and rushing water, "Rap your leg around mine. If one of us falls, we fall off together."

We went about 10-15 minutes before we stopped. "Welcome to the lake, Brendan," Amy's brother Clint says.

Later that night, we get a bonfire going (s'mores included). We're all sitting around talking to each other about college plans (Helena), back to school (every other kid), and the wedding (my dad and Amy).

Clint says, "So Brendan, I hear you play guitar."

Brendan replies, "I do."

"How 'bout you grab your guitar and play us a song."

"Sure! I'll be back."

He comes back quickly and sits back down in the metal folding chair. He makes sure it's tuned and strums the chords to The World is Ugly. As he's singing, he's looking at me the whole time. (Exaggeration; not really the whole time.)

I reflect on the things we've been through since October. I've learned so much about love; it can change someone for good. It taught me how to stick up for someone. How to listen to someone because you could be the only shoulder they have to lean on. But most importantly, it taught me how to save a life. If I wouldn't have met Brendan, I don't know where I would be. I would still be walked all over by Staci and Cammy, made fun of for being so desperate, sit in my room all the time. Like I was for him, he was the best thing that has ever happened to me. It takes a lot to know if you really love someone. It's not about looks. It's about the connection you have. Forget people saying that thirteen/fourteen/fifteen is too young to know what love is. Love is not just an emotion you feel. It's something so powerful that can make your life better or worse.

Brendan finishes the song and everyone claps. He goes to put his guitar away inside and Darnell asks me, "Hey, B, what's the song that he just sang?" I smile a little and answer, "It's his song."

The End :D
