It's sadly Monday, but what a hell of a week it was last week! Brendan and I now can tell people at school that we're together. I was very excited. I don't know about him, though.
I get on the bus and take my normal seat with Brendan. "Hi," he says quietly. "Hey," I reply with sleep still in my voice. I lay my head on his shoulder and fall asleep quickly.
~~~
Something taps my leg waking me up. It was Brendan. "Hey, we're almost at the school," he says. I nod and sit up. I did not want to do the "school thing" today. I've always hated Mondays just like everyone else that attends school or works forty hours a week.
We walk into the school and find Autumn, Hannah, Ian Laslie, and Michelle. I lay my head on Autumn's shoulder and almost fall back asleep. "B, wake up," she says. I reply, "I don't wanna."
"But you gotta."
I groan and stand up straight. After a few seconds of silence, I speak up. "So, um, guys?"
They all look in my direction and I continue. "Brendan, say it." He answers, "What? Why?"
"Because I said so."
He sighs and says, "Brianna, well, BB, and I are together." Autumn and Hannah's faces light up and Michelle yells, "I knew it!"
~~~
The rest of the day was similar. I wasn't carrying a rock behind me anymore.
After school was over, I went over to Brendan's.
I knock on their door and Adrienne answers. "Hey! How's it going?" I answer, "It's going good. Is Brendan in his room?" She replies, "Actually he's in here with me. You can come in if you'd like." I nod and she let's me inside. She shuts the door and I stand there awkwardly.
I see Brendan sitting on their sectional scrolling through his phone. He looks over at me and says, "You can sit down, unless you want to stand there for a while." I sigh and sit by Brendan.
Adrienne sits on the other side the beige colored sectional and looks at us. "I've always known you two had the hots for each other since the Monday we came over for the first time."
Brendan and I look at each other, and I ask, "How?"
"For starters, Brendan NEVER shuts up about you."
Brendan blushes and says, "Well, um, yeah."
Adrienne continues. "I could also see a connection between you two since Veronica was out of the picture."
Brendan: "I'm still pissed off for what she did."
Me: "I would be mad if my significant other was cheating on me if I was a thousand miles away." We sit in silence for a minute, then Brendan grabs my hand and says to his mom, "We're going upstairs." Adrienne replies, "Don't have sex!" He answers, "We won't!"
Brendan and I get to his bedroom and he shuts the door behind him. Oh sweet baby Jesus. This is really happening. (No, we're not going to have sex.) He starts kissing me roughly and pushes us onto his bed. The next thing I knew, he licked my bottom lip demanding entrance. I've never made out before, so I was trying my best to play along.
I part my lips a little and he starts exploring the inside of my mouth. After a few seconds of that, the kissing wasn't that rough anymore. It was just passionate.
We stop and look each other in the eye. Brendan says, "I cut my tongue on your braces, just by the way." I giggle a little and sigh.
We both sit up and put our backs against the wall. Brendan looks at me. I could tell, but I didn't look back at him. He kisses my cheek which makes me smile. "You know I love you, right?" He asks. I nod and say, "Yes, and I love you, too."
He breaks his gaze and looks at the floor...well, in this case, his bed. Brendan hesitates, then asks, "Are you sure?" I look at him and ask, "You and Helena weren't just talking about random things on Saturday." I could see the guilt wash over his face.
"I think she's jealous," he said.
"What happened on Saturday?"
Brendan sighs then says, "She asked me why I kissed you, if I actually loved you, if you...loved me."
I was in complete shock. "Of course I love you, Brendan."
After a moment of silence, he speaks up. "She told me you were with me...to make Kayla jealous."
"Really? You've got to be kidding me. I'm sorry, but Kayla said that you are not her type." I kiss his cheek and continue. "I love you. I really do. Trust me."
I could feel a smile form on his face. He believed me. I can't even explain my anger towards Helena. She tried to brainwash Brendan into...not loving me. Someone's jealous.
After a long period of silence, I ask, "What's going to happen to us?"
He replies, "What do you mean?"
"What's going to happen to us after high school? When we leave Madison? After college? Will we still be, I can't believe I'm saying this, Brenna?"
Brendan laughs a little then says, "We can't prevent the future; it's bulletproof. The aftermath to the events are secondary. If this isn't a thing anymore, so be it. But I can tell you that this thing is going to last a while."
I smile and say, "Nice MCR reference. This thing is going to last a long time between us. But can we not be the annoying couple that is like, 'I love you more' in the obnoxious tone and use first person plural?"
"We LOVE The Nightmare Before Christmas."
"We HATE Ally Lindley and absolutely LOVE The Breakfast Club."
"Wait, you like The Breakfast Club?"
"It's my favorite movie!"
"Movie night!"
"Not tonight, though."
"This weekend?"
"Helena and Kayla won't be there and we can send my sister to Becca's house next door to spend the night."
"So it's a date?"
"It sure is."
"Sour Patch Kids?"
"Sour Patch Kids."
