"Wake up," I heard a voice.

"Ash, please come on!" Another voice echoed.

"Mmhm," I muttered. The voices were far, and I was barely able to do anything.

"Are you hearing me?" Finally I was coming back to my senses.

"Yes! I'm awake!" I opened my eyes slowly, I felt some pain in my head and moaned. "Ouch!" The sun was blinding me.

"We were getting worried!" Derek said.

"Are you okay?" Christi asked.

I managed to sit, "I'm fine."

"So what are we going to do today?" Chris scratched his forehead.

"What I said, I'm going to get my mom! Even if it took Jacob and I onl- where's Jason?!" I stood up.

"He went to get some water from the kitchen downstairs." Christi said.

My blood froze in my veins, "and no one stopped him?!" I shouted, then ran as fast as my feet could move. I jumped the last four steps.

"Jacob!" I whisper-shouted as I opened the door to the staircase. The warmth of my apartment welcomed me.

"Jacob!!" But no answer.

I walked through the hallways, into his room, but no one was there.

I walked to the living room, the television was on, but there was a colored image. I switched between the channels but nothing was there, all blank. I sighed and turned it of. My phone wasn't connecting me with my mom, but the serves is always bad around here.

I walked slowly to the door, my heart beat increasing with every step... The door was locked so Jacob didn't leave the area, and the couch was still blocking the door, that calmed me a bit. I looked through the hole, but there was nothing but a body infront the door. But it wasn't completely still, it's hands were moving. I watched as its arm moved slowly. A growl could be heard. Suddenly the body sat, and looked at my apartment's door, and I felt like my blood was boiling. It's hand seemed to reach my door, and then it started scratching and smacking the door. "Oh my God!" I whispered, as another creature came to the door and started shaking it.

"Mom?" I heard a voice, and I jumped in my spot.

My back hit the door and I bit my tongue to not scream. "Holy shit!" I sighed as my heart hammered in my chest. "You scared me, Jacob!"

"Sorry," he apologized.

"Where were you?" I walked to him.

"I was in my room, getting my iPad!" He showed me the device.

"Don't leave my side again, alright? I was terrified!" I held his hand and walked to the stairs.

"I'm not a kid, mom! I can take care of my self, plus nothing is wrong!"

He loosened my grip on his hand. Suddenly, loud thuds echoed in my apartment. I looked at the apartment's door, which was directly at the end of the room.

"What was that?!" He asked, I shook my head.

"I don't know!" I whispered.

A scream made both of us jump in our places, and I felt Jacob grip my hand, again.

"Jacob, stay here, alright?" I whispered.

He nodded. I walked slowly towards the door, and looked through the eye hole, there wasn't just one or two creatures, there was a dozen of them, and half are attacking my neighbor. I could see her trying to push the door to close, but the zombies were to many, so she just ran to her house. Then a zombie's face got infront of my eyes, and an involuntary scream escaped my mouth.

"Go upstairs! Now!" I yelled to Jacob. Then ran with him to the roof.

"What happened?" Derek asked.

"What was down there?" Chris questioned.

"We heard a scream!" Christi said.

"Can't we get out of here?" Derek asked again.

"Did anything happen to you two?" Christi came to check us.

"Are you guys okay?" Chris questioned.

"This is more serious than I imagined!" I breathed out.

Another scream echoed, and it sounded from the street. I ran to the end of the roof and saw my neighbor, Amanda, running in the street and behind her was a group of zombies.

"Amanda!" I shouted, fear raising in my body.

"Help!" She screamed and looked at me.

She got in her car, but the zombies surrounded her.

"That's a distraction for them! Now we can go to the garage and get your car!" Derek turned me from the scene.

"I don't think I can move!" I whispered, panic filling my veins.

"You have to be strong, we will find your mom, the other's parents, and we will survive this, maybe California is infected only! We will be okay," he hugged me, and I sighed.

"Lets do this." I nodded.

We walked to my apartment, it was a bit dark since the power was out for an unknown reason.

"Gather every weapon, food, and warm clothes, this will be a long journey."
