Chapter Twenty-Six:
My heavy breathing was the only thing I could hear. Everything was so loud, and blurry. What was happening? All I could feel was something tugging at my leg, pulling me down, and pain in my hands.
"Ash," a voice echoed, but I was too lost to know who was calling me. "Ash!" It called again, this time, the voice was laced with frustration. A mental kick brought me back to reality, and soon enough, my vision and everything got vivid, making a gasp escape my lips.
"Help!" I cried out, my eyes starting to get watery. There was a zombie clutching my feet, trying to pull it's self up. I was holding into the roof's cliff so hard, it made my fingers ache. "Somebody help me!" I yelled, trying to break loose from the zombie.
"Ash, take my hand," Derek's face popped up, his hand extended.
"There's a zombie," I sobbed, "grabbing my foot!"
"It's okay, just grab my hands!" He gave me an assuring look, Thor extending his hands too.
I took in a deep breath, and held into one of Derek's hands. Thor grabbed my other hand, and together, they pulled me up for a bit."Try making the zombie fall," Thor suggested.
I gulped, a tear escaping my eye. The walker was so heavy, pulling at my leg, so I proceeded to swing my feet, rocking the biter with me. Using my free leg, I started jamming my shoes in it's head, as it growled over and over again, devouring me with it's hungry eyes. It suddenly bit my leg, and I screamed... Not because of pain, but of surprise and fear. It's teeth didn't get through my Jordan's, but I felt the pressure of the bite.
"It is biting my shoes!" I yelled, looking up at the pale faces of my friends. At the building behind us, the pile of zombies was still there, a couple slipped and fell to the ground, splashing blood everywhere, the others were just growling and helplessly trying to get us.
The walker hanging by my feet, raised one of it's hands, and clawed my jeans, tearing it down from my knee to the end. "These were expensive, you asshole!" I exclaimed, feeling angry. I swung my feet more, and it let go, crashing into a window, then falling to the hard cement, it's skull smashing into the ground.
I breathed out of relief, my friends pulling me up. As soon as my foot hit safety, I broke down to the ground, crying. The feelings of fear, horror, and happiness overwhelmed me, and I pulled Jacob to a hug, bursting into tears. I was so close to death, it was one of the most terrifying experiences so far... And I shall survive, and never go through such a thing again!_
After my melt down, we gathered our things, weapons in hand, and proceeded to climb down the fire escape of the building, and finally to actually find my relatives.
The streets were empty, no undeads wandering, which was a relief because I honestly didn't have the energy to fight anymore... But, we needed to find a place to stay the night, because it wasn't nearly safe to walk in the open road at this time.
"No! We have to find my parents!" Christi crossed her arms over her chest.
"But it isn't safe," I argued.
"We need to find somewhere we can sleep, or else we won't live to find your parents!" Thor said.
"Bu-" Chris was about to argue, but mom talked."She is my sister, but we can't risk it," she sighed.
The twins looked at each other with frustration, but groaned, giving up. I looked around, starting to get worried about us... Where are we going to hide? And what if a herd wandering around caught us?
We walked slowly in the streets, looking around every second. Everything looked eerie and haunted, it gave me chills! To our horror, a growl far away was heard, followed by some noise, and other sounds... We were in trouble!
I squinted my eyes, trying to figure out what was happening, until a walker came out, and started limping around... Followed by a small group of other undeads.
"Shit!" I whispered, my blood running cold in my veins.
"Mom," Jacob tugged at my hand, pointing. "That store seems clear!"
I looked, and it seemed empty, so I signaled the others to follow me, keeping a gun in my hand. We walked carefully, and silently, to not drag the attention of the other biters.
Taking in a deep breath, I opened the door of the store, and the others followed behind. It was almost pitch black! More than creepy!
"This is a bad idea," I whispered, panicking.
Thor took out a flash light, and brought life to the place, illuminating the empty place. We did a quick search, and to our luck, it was safe... And soon after we felt secured enough, I fell into a deep sleep on the hard, cold ground.
