Chapter Twenty-Five:
"Don't look down!" I shouted at Jacob as we climbed the fire escape towards the roof, it was a really high building, so it was hard to get to the rooftop fast. Suddenly, the face of a walker appeared, as it started hitting on the glass, cracks appearing. I ignored it and kept climbing, making sure that Jacob passed it safely, and was behind Derek.
The sound of crashing echoed, along with Christi's scream. I looked down at her, to find the zombies piling out of the apartment's window, and slowly climbing the stairs. Thor pushed her to be in front of him, and under Chris and I. Another sound echoed, and the zombie that was hitting the glass earlier was now trying to claw us with his yellow fingernails. I groaned and pulled my knife angrily, then thrusted it in it's head, blood splattering on my hand. We moved the fastest we could, and finally reached the roof, only to get more trouble. The roof's door was wide opened, a few zombies were wandering around, until they noticed us, and started walking towards my group.
We were trapped.
*** 1 hour earlier ***
A sob escaped my lips, followed by another. Tears were rolling down my face silently. It was dark, the moon was lightening the place slightly, and the only things visible and hearable, were the zombies, and their sounds. "I can't take this anymore," I whispered, wiping away my tears. The aircrafts that flew above us earlier did nothing but attract more zombies because of the loud voices. It would be a bad idea to follow them, because they might mistake us for zombies and kill us, or die because of any of their shooting.
Death... Maybe it will be the best for all of us. I can't live in this world anymore!
"Hey," a soft voice whispered behind me.
I sighed, "hi, Thor."
He walked to be next to me, clutching the railing of the fire escape balcony. "How are you feeling?" He asked.
I gave him a look, not even bothering to wipe away my tears. "I'm perfect, so good!" I said ironically.
He let out a breath of frustration, "wanna talk about it?"
My lip quivered, and I started breathing heavily, "I don't know if I can keep doing this!"
"Doing what?" He asked, his voice soft and comforting. Him and I grow closer everyday, he is someone important now.
"Living, surviving," I looked at him, my vision blurry from the tears. "It's too much to handle!"
He rubbed my back, soothingly. "But we have to keep going! We can't just give up now."
"I know," I nodded, my voice breaking as I felt great sadness engulfing me.
"We will find your relatives!" He tried to sooth the pain, even though it wasn't working.
"But, then what?" I said, wiping away tears. "We will find them, and continue living in this hell hole!"
He shook his head, "no. You don't know what the next days are hiding! Maybe we will wake up from this!"
"It's the world now, it's reality," I sobbed.
"It's just a nightmare! Nightmares end."
I sighed, "I hope so. But why did it happen?"
"Ash-" he was about to start, but I burst into tears again. I couldn't help it, there was too much pain inside of me!
"Is it a lesson? Is it a punishment? What? It's pure hell on earth. My son doesn't deserve this!"
"Jacob is a tough kid."
"You said it, he's a kid! He is too young to go through this!" I cried.
