Chapter Eleven:

The snores of my friends were driving me crazy... How could they sleep in this time?! My eyelids felt heavy, but I was driving, so there was no way I could sleep!

My eyes started closing involuntarily, but I fought to stay awake. Derek was next to me, asleep, and the others were at the back. I looked at them through the rear view mirror, and saw Jacob looking out the window.

"Jake!" I called in a calm voice so that the others don't wake up, he looked at me. "Hey baby," I smiled, "why aren't you sleeping?"

He shook his head, and looked outside again, "I can't." His voice seemed broken, and it teared my heart apart.

"It will be okay," I said. "I promise!"

He nodded, "I'm going to try sleeping."

"Okay, honey." I sighed, rubbing my forehead tiredly.

After some time, it was dawn, and at that time, I couldn't open my eyes anymore. I lost conscious, leaving the wheel. Suddenly, the car swerved to the right, jerking me awake. It happened a few times, until I was able to open my eyes for a bit more.

I gasped, turning the wheel to the right as I saw there was a zombie in the middle of the street. A scream came out of my lips as a dog jumped in from of the car, I lost control over the wheel, and the car swerved to the left. Everyone snapped awake from their sleep, and started screaming as the car crashed into a tree.

"Is everyone okay?" I asked, breathing heavily.

"Yeah," they said in unison.

"What the hell happened?!" Derek asked, with wide eyes.

I pointed at the street, "that." He followed my gaze to see the dog, surrounded by zombies, tearing him a part. His barks died away slowly, blood splattering everywhere.

"What if they came here?!" Christi exclaimed.

I tried turning the ignition on, but it wasn't working! There was smoke coming from the front of the car.

I slammed my head against the steering wheel, groaning. "We have to walk."

"What?" They all shouted in unison.

"Yes!" I nodded. "And we can't wait until they finish from the dog, we have to kill them so that they don't attack!"

"We can't use our guns," Chris said.

We each grabbed a weapon. Silently, we exited the car. The zombies were busy with devouring the poor dog, so we walked to them. There were four of them, and five of us.

I grabbed my knife firmly, and each one stood behind a zombie. In a quick move, I pierced the knife through one, Derek slammed the hammer on one's head, Christi hit the zombie with a baseball ball, and Chris cracked one's skull with a wrench.

It was disgusting, and scary! The dog was barely recognizable, and it made me feel sick!

I let out a breath of relief, "we have to walk."

"Maybe there's a town near by," Derek nodded.

Suddenly, one zombie growled, and was about to grab Chris's leg, but someone cracked its skull with a knife. I looked up with wide eyes to see Jacob shaking the blood off of his hand, and taking the knife out.
"Let's go," he said, starting to walk.

_

I felt exhausted... My feet were aching, and my stomach was grumbling. My eyes were burning from the lack of sleep, and the sun was blinding us as we walked in the open road.

"I'm tired," Christi whined.

"Oh Gosh," I sighed. "I can't listen to any whining! I didn't get any sleep!"

"I'm hungry," Derek groaned, searching in his back pack.

"I have food in my bag," I said. He started his hunt in my bag, as we continued walking.

"Look!" Chris pointed. There was a bridge close to us, that leads to a town.

"Maybe we can find a car there!" Christi grinned.

"And real food!" Derek exclaimed.

I noticed something in Jacob's bag, which made me frown. "Jake," I called. "What's in your bag?"

"Guns," he shrugged, talking coldly.

"From where?" I frowned.

"The car I hid in," he said.

Oh, I totally forgot about it!
After sometime, we crossed the bridge and got into the town... It was like a zombie land! Oh wait, it is.

"Walker!" Derek exclaimed in a whisper, signaling for us to hide behind a car. I frowned, looking at him. "I watched a few episodes of The Walking Dead," he shrugged.

I just had one question in my mind... If we knew about the disease just a few days ago... How long was it there so that everything went to hell this quickly?

I had a feeling in my gut that this disease has been there long enough, but was hidden from us... Aren't I right?
