Chapter Twelve:
"Run!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"Don't look back!" Derek demanded.
Christi didn't obey him, and did exactly the opposite of what he ordered. As soon as she saw what was behind us, a sob escaped her lips. "I don't want to die!" She cried out loud.
"Give us the guns," Derek ordered Jacob.
As we kept on running, Jacob handed Chris, Derek, and I guns. "Keep running. Don't stop, don't hide, just keep running, and we will catch up!" I said to Christi and Jacob.
"No!" She said, her tears rolling down her face.
"C, please! You and Jacob have to run, nothing will happen to us, okay?!" I gave her an assuring look, and she nodded.
"Now!" Derek shouted. Taking in a deep breath, the three of us turned, facing our probable death.
*30 minutes earlier.*
I shrieked, watching as Derek cut the zombie's head off of its neck. He's the perfect zombie slayer... It was kind of hot.
"Come, he will follow behind!" Christi rolled her eyes, grabbing my hand, and dragging me from the porch, to inside a house that wasn't locked.
"I need a bathroom!" Chris pushed us, and ran inside.
"No, Chris! We have to make sure that the house is secure!" I called after him, but it was too late, he disappeared behind a wall.
A groan escaped my lips, "I guess we have to do it ourselves."
And by that, we grabbed our weapons, and walked inside the empty house. Checking every room, I felt a bit safe... The house was zombies-free. Maybe we could spend some time in this house... There's a bit of food in the kitchen!
The sound of the front door being opened, and closed, echoed. I expected it to be Derek, so I brushed it off.
"Jake, honey," I called. "Do you want anything to eat?"
"No," he replied, walking in the kitchen.
I frowned, "is everything okay?"
"Yes, perfect! Just wonderful!" He rolled his eyes.
I sighed, "I know this may be extremely bad, but we have to keep going! We will find my mom, then our friends' parents, and then we will be safe!"
"How?" He raised an eyebrow. "Increasing our number is a risk!"
"No it isn't, we will be safe and sound," I said. "There's always a solution, and this thing has one."
He gave me a look, "I am going to pretend that I will believe this."
"A few days into this, and you're already growing," I rubbed my forehead tiredly.
He nodded, "I'm going to see if the TV is on." And by that he left the room.
I heard the door open and close again, which sent a frown to my face. Did anyone go out?
So I walked to the front door, and saw Derek.
"Hey! Didn't you just get in?" I frowned.
He looked confused, "no. I was killing the zombie!"
I was about to ask more questions, but a piercing scream made my blood run cold. It was Christi's. So we both ran to the source, and found a zombie standing in front of her.
"Step away!" A voice called.
"Jacob!" I shouted, "no!" But it was too late... He pulled the trigger. The sound of the shotgun echoed, and it was deafening. We all pressed our palms against our ears, as we watched the zombie fall down to the ground, lifeless.
Suddenly, my blood started boiling, and anger took over me. I turned to Jacob with glaring eyes.
"What?" He asked.
"Who is the crazy person who used a gun?!" Chris came out of the bathroom, yelling.
"Why? I just killed a zombie!" Jake said.
I didn't open my mouth, I was just glaring at him. My body was trembling, and I felt furious!
"What?" He asked again.
"Do you realize what you've done?" Derek shouted.
"I saved Christi's life!" He frowned.
"You just doomed us all," I talked, my voice coming out as a shaky whisper...
A sound echoed, making us all gasp. "Did you hear that?" Christi trembled.
I looked at Jacob one more time, before walking with Derek to a window, and my heart skipped a beat.
"We should go!" He said.
"Now!" I exclaimed.
We grabbed our things, and headed out of the door... They were all there, looking at us with hungry eyes, and sharp nails to rip your flesh open. My heart came to a halt.
They suddenly started running, and screams from us echoed in the sky, as we raced down the street. The creatures' growls were heard behind us, and I looked back, gasping. They were fast, and their number was way too big for us to handle... We had no place to go, so we kept running.
"What do we do now?!" Chris shouted.
"Let's hide!" Christi suggested.
"They will catch us at the end," I exclaimed. "We only can run!"
"I have a better idea," Derek said. "Shoot the fast ones, and someone will find a car."
We all looked at each other, breathing heavily as we kept moving our feet.
"Derek, Ash, and I will shoot!" Chris nodded.
"And we will steal the car!" Jacob said to Christi.
And that's how we got here... Facing our death, as the three of us turned around, with heavy guns in hand, and a big amount of ammo.
"Die!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, shooting at the zombies. They fell to the ground, tripping others. We all were firing, the sounds were so loud.
As the zombies got closer, we backed away, still shooting.
"I can't find a car!" I heard a yell from far away.
"Search more!" Chris shouted over the shooting sounds.
One got really close to me, but Derek managed to shoot it.
This thing kept going for a few minutes, it was horrible! The zombies were flooding, and I had no idea from where this amount came.
"I found a car!" A loud yell echoed, and we stopped the firing, and started running towards Jacob and Christi. They were a block away, so it was a dreadful period of time until we reached them. It was absolutely horrifying! My heart was beating so fast, and my body was trembling in fear.
We finally reached the car, and jumped in, locking the doors as the zombies surrounded the car, and started rocking it.
"Go, go, go!" I exclaimed.
Christi fumbled with the keys, freaking out, and then dropped them. Tears rolled down her face, as she had a hard time getting the keys to start the car.
"Come on, Destiny!" Derek shouted.
"The glass won't hold any longer!" Jacob yelled.
She finally entered the key, and turned the ignition on. "Go!" I ordered, my breath decreasing as a zombies face was pressed into my door's window. Blood and a weird liquid got printed into the glass, and it's flesh was almost falling completely. We made eye contact, and a tear rolled down my face.
Finally, the car started moving, and speeded down the road, away from the undead... And I just sat there, crying my heart out at what have happened to the world, to America.
