Chapter Twenty-0ne:

"How long have you been in there?" I asked.

"Since the beginning," he shrugged, jumping over a branch of tree.

"Can I ask a question?" I looked at him, he towered over me.

"Yeah, sure!" He smiled.

"Do you have any idea how it happened?"

He stumbled over a rock, and fell to his knees. I burst out laughing, grabbing his arm, and helping him up. "Stop laughing!" He narrowed his eyes at me.

I didn't stop, I kept chuckling, snorting like a pig. He joined my laughter, getting up.

"Thor, Ash. Come on, hurry!" Logan called, gesturing for us to hurry up.

I grabbed Thor's hand, starting to walk towards the captain of the hunting group, Logan. James, one of the group, was looking at us bored.

We continued walking, and soon enough, we came across a zombie.

"Is it my turn?" I grinned, jumping in my spot, excited.

Logan chuckled, nodding, and Thor handed me the ax. The zombie was looking at me weirdly, his face had so many cuts. I smiled at it, "hello!" And swung the ax, cutting its head horizontally. It fell to the ground, and the group clapped to me, I bowed.

"Thank you, thank you," I giggled.

"You're getting better," Thor winked, I gave him a cheeky smile.

What? I got used to it! We've been with them for almost three weeks now. Each was getting good in his/ her assigned job, and I was kicking behinds in mine! If you are wondering about Christi, and Chris's decision about going to their parents, they are still thinking, but haven't found the right time to start moving.

Thor and I started getting along... He is pretty cool to be honest! I can't hold a grudge, so I understood that it was the boss's rules to beat the answers out of us.

We hunted some small animals, but today was another day free of big meat... Which was a bummer. In these weeks, we hunted 4 deers, and a one that was bitten, add some rabbits, birds, and such.

Everyone started getting along with us... Jacob had a female friend, and she's absolutely lovely! And each one of us found someone to hang out with during our times of working. For example, me, I found Thor!

We started heading back to the secured area that they call "the zombie killing experts" area. We were all chatting together, laughing, and it was pretty fun! We faced the gate of the ZKS area, and Jason, the man responsible for controlling the gate, nodded at us with a smile, then opened the gate, revealing our new home... Yeah, home, because I felt safe in it!

We walked inside, smiles plastered on our faces as I held the weapons, while the others held the food. Everyone looked at us, and grinned.

"Great job!" A 16 year old male came to me with a grin, and took the weapons from my hands.

"Thanks, Malcolm!" I smiled politely. "Hey, have you seen Jacob?"

He nodded, "he was with Jessica, playing around."

"Alright, thank you!" I said, before walking to a building Jacob usually played at.

"Baby!" I called, looking around. I saw a woman that I haven't caught her name, "do you know where Jacob is?!"

She shook her head as a 'no' so I kept searching. He was no where to be found, and my heart started beating fast.

After some time, I went to my room to refresh myself, and found him there. I sighed, "I've been searching for you!"

He looked at me for a second, then buried his face in his hands. My heart skipped a beat as I heard a sob.

"Jacob?" I asked, walking to him, "what's wrong?!"

He shook his head, letting out a cry filled with sadness.

"Talk to me, baby!" I turned his body to look at me. His sight broke my heart, as I started caressing his cheeks, wiping away the tears.

"She-she d-died!" He exclaimed, before bursting into more tears, and pulling me to a hug. My heart started hammering in my chest.

"Who?!" I asked.

"Jessica!" I said between sobs.

I pushed him, making him look at me in the face, "how?!" He didn't reply, "how, Jacob?!"

"We were playing!"

"Where?"

"In that area, and she fell in the zombies' hole!" He covered his face, and my jaw dropped.

"What?" I said, my voice barely getting out.

"They tore her apart before she could even scream!" He cried, tears rolling down his face fast.

My eyes started getting watery, and I pulled him into a hug... "Did you tell anyone else?" I asked.

He shook his head, burying his face in my chest, "just you."

I need to tell someone!

Suddenly, a piercing scream echoed, making both of us jump to our feet. "Come!" I ordered, grabbing a knife I placed under the bed.

Hand in hand, we ran out of the building, looking around to see people gathering, with questioned looks.

"Zombies!" A woman covered in blood shouted from the end of the street, before falling to the ground.

I gasped, starting to run towards her along the others.

The sound of a horn made us stop in our tracks, then the screams of many. "Help!" A very familiar voice caught my attention.

"Derek," I whispered, my heart dropping to the ground.
