Chapter Twenty-Eight:
"Do you think that the planes will come?" I talked in a quiet voice, looking around.
"Yeah, the report was from the military, so it must be true!" Derek reasoned.
"How come it came from the military?" Thor raised his eyebrow.
"Her father, God rest his soul, was in the army," was my reply.
"Oh, that's cool!" He smiled, making me smile back.
"How are we going to know what date it is?" Derek asked.
"If we are meant to survive, then we will!" I smiled.
"Psst," Thor signaled. I squealed, running after the squirrel on the ground, but a knife stopped my movement, same thing for the poor animal. I turned to Thor with an angry face, "I hate you!"
He chuckled, "come on, you could've never caught it!"
I was about to argue, but Derek shut us up, pointing at a walker. I picked up the squirrel, and threw it to the boys, then walked towards the zombie. "Hey," I smiled, as it growled and extended its arms to me. I clutched its collar, and drove my blade thought it's skull, cracking it open. After it fell to the ground, I turned to them, smiling.
But it got wiped from my face as soon as I heard another growl, followed by more sounds, making my blood run cold in my veins. A herd!
We immediately started running away, getting out from between the trees and into the town, getting swallowed by buildings. To our horror, another herd was wandering in the opposite side... We got trapped!
Thor motioned his head, dragging us with him to a street. "Shit!" I whisper-shouted, panicking. There were zombies everywhere! Their activities were getting more during this time of the year, I had no idea why!
"Quick, hide under the cars!" Derek said, so that's what we did. I lowered my self under an SUV, laying flat on my stomach against the hard ground. On my right was Derek under a vehicle, and Thor was next to him.
I could visible see the feet of the walkers, wandering. And then the herds passed by us, their growls and groans sent shivers down my spine. I felt fear invading my body, and I covered my mouth, my tears rolling down my face as I shook uncontrollably. The sounds were so loud, I wanted to scream. I forced my eyes shut, and tried to keep it all in.
It seemed like the volumes were increasing more and more, images of blood and guts, along with the faces of zombies rushed in my mind, and a sob escaped my lips. I felt like crying my eyes out, but something inside of me pushed me. Something inside of me wanted to explode, I started hyperventilating. So I did the single, most stupidest thing ever... My eyes snapped opened, and I just crawled from under the car.
Where I stood was safe, but on the other side, the herd noticed me. All of the heads turned to me, and I felt like passing out. The growls echoed, along with my screams, as I turned on my heels, and started running away. The walkers followed close behind, every time I had the opportunity to shoot, I would stop and fire. "Help!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, my tears scrolling down my face as I kept moving my feet. It seems like it was the only word to use in zombie land.
I turned my head to find the zombies limping behind me, no sign of my friends. Great job, Ash! You doomed yourself!
A minute later, I heard some gun shot, and half of the amount of walkers stopped chasing after me, and followed the sounds. I clutched my knife, turning to face one of the extremely close biters, and stabbing it in the eye. It's growl died, and it fell to the ground. I moved to the next one, wrapping my finger's around it's neck, it scratch my arms with it's nails. I looked at it in disbelief, "asshole!" And by that, I pierced it's skull with my weapon. I shook the blood off of my hands, only to lift my head up and see more zombies coming from between the buildings and trees. I gasped, preparing to run, but I tripped and fell to the ground, pain invading my leg. The undead started getting closer and closer, making me cry out for help again, my gun running out of bullets.
Suddenly, a deafening sound made a scream escape my lips, and I closed my ears. Loud gun shot was silencing the walkers, making them fall to the ground next to me, dead. It stayed like that for a bit, until I got up, then turned around thinking I would find my friends, only to see complete strangers, with heavy guns pointed at me. I raised my hands, gulping, my heart racing.
"Thanks," I said, my voice raspy. One muscly guy walked to be behind me, and then he roughly gripped my wrists, making me yelp. "What are you doing?!" I exclaimed, feeling him joining them together, then tying them up.
"Walk," he spoke, his voice deep and scary. He pushed me roughly in front of him, and I stumbled. Looking around, I only saw men.
Seven guys, one girl... I might be in trouble!
