Chapter Nineteen:
Why is it so dark?
Last time I checked, it was 5 in the afternoon!
Oh wait...
I opened my eyes.
The first thing I saw was under the car. Thor's weight left my body, and I was finally able to breathe. The SUV reversed, and the sun blinded me... I was thankful at that moment. I slowly sat straight, but was picked up, and engulfed in a hug. I breathed in the scent of Derek... Who hadn't showered in a while -the same as all of us- which brought tears to run down my face -not because of the smell of sweat- and I hugged him more. Chris and Christi joined our group hug, and I looked around to find Jacob running towards me.
I went to my knees, and received his embrace, as we both cried on each other's shoulders.
I couldn't believe what just happened... The both of us would have been dead by now! I broke the hug, my hands on his cheek, and both our eyes glassy. I looked at him from head to toe, checking for any injuries. "We are okay," I whispered, bursting into tears, and hugging him again.
After a few moments, I heard what seemed like an argument. I turned to see the boss talking to a woman, she had her back to us, only her brown hair that fell to her back. I stormed to them, leaving the ones who were calling me behind.
I reached them, and pushed the boss. "Damn you!" I shouted, raising my hand to slap him, but he clutched my hand mid-air, giving me a disapproving look.
"Look to your left," he said, bored and lazily.
I frowned, my anger calming down a bit. When I looked at the woman who had her eyes wide opened, my anger vanished, and tears spilt again. I pulled her into a hug, "mommy!"
_
Her smile made me calm, her eyes were twinkling with happiness. Her warm hand was caressing my cheek, sending comfort to my body. I missed her so much! It's been a year or so since I've seen her! She was in her mid 40's, and had a frightful aura around her, but it was also loving.
"How did you find us?" I asked, my smile couldn't be wiped since the moment I saw her.
We were all gathered in her room, in an apartment that she shared with other people.
"I saw Evan dragging you guys, and heard the screams," she explained. "As soon as they took you to the punishing area, I knew what was going to happen. I'm really glad I stopped them at the right time!"
I smiled, "I'm so happy you're here, safe!"
"As soon as the apocalypse happened, I came here," she replied.
"Do you know why this happened?" Derek asked.
She shook hear head, "no clue."
"What is going to happen to us?" Christi questioned.
"I talked to Evan, the boss, to keep you here," she said.
We all let out a breath of relief.
"But under conditions," she said.
I raised an eyebrow, "which are?"
"Jobs will be distributed to all of you," she gave us an apologizing smile.
"We can't stay here!" Chris exclaimed, standing up.
We all frowned looked at him, "why not?" My mom, Barbra, asked.
"We haven't found our parents yet!" He said to Christi, who suddenly fell pale.
"They are still out there, we have to find them first!" She ran her hand through her hair.
