Chapter Fourteen:

I slowly opened my eyes, feeling pain spreading through my head. My vision was blurred, and I couldn't see anything but a dim light, and a figure above me.

"Am I dead?" I managed to speak. There was a sound echoing, but I couldn't comprehend any word! Everything was spinning, and I felt really dizzy. Green eyes cleared up, making me dazed. "Are you an angel?" I asked.

A laugh erupted, "no, silly."

I shook my head, trying to clear everything, but it only caused more pain. I winced, pressing my palm against my forehead, "ouch!"

"It's okay, Ash. Relax," he spoke softly. His hand was pressed against my cheek, sending a warm feeling to my body.

Finally, the blur imagine cleared up, and my eyes met Derek's green ones. A smile automatically crawled to my face, but I also frowned, "what happened?"

"We will talk later, just rest!" He tried to push me to lay back down, but I refused, and sat up.

"Where's everyone?"

"They are securing the area," he replied. His tone was calm, and relaxing.

"Is Jacob okay?" I asked, getting worried that he isn't around.

"Yes, yeah. He's with Chris, and Christi."

I sighed, covering my face with my palms. He pulled me into a side hug, and rubbed my shoulder. "You got us worried," he said.

"Can you tell me now what happened?" I raised an eyebrow, looking around the room. It was a bedroom, dark and only lightened by a couple of candles, our bags were at one corner, along with the weapons.

"When you were on the fire escape, we turned around, and got in the building you were trapped in. You were supposed to get to the room from where we were calling you, but when the zombie pulled you in another room, we got to it, and found you fighting with the zombie. When I killed it with my knife, it fell on you, and head butted you, causing you to faint." He explained.

I rubbed my head groaning, and he continued. "Good news is, you're not dead. Bad news, I am not an angel!" He chuckled.

Okay... That's awkward.

I glared at him, "dude!"

"I'm just messing with you," he nudged me.

"Mom!" Jacob called, entering the room. I gasped, feeling joy overwhelming me, as he ran and hugged me.

"Baby! I got so scared!" I whispered.

"I'm happy you're here," he said.

"We are safe," I nodded, smiling at him.

Christi and Chris walked in the room, smiling. I got up, and hugged them.

"The coast is clear, the zombies don't know we are here," Chris said.

"We can't have loud voices, alright?" Christi sat on the bed.

I nodded. "The electricity is out?" I asked.

"Yes," she groaned. "And there's no server, or any connection to make any calls."

"I guess that's how it is going to be from now on," Derek sighed.

I looked down, feeling sadness dominating my mood. I didn't want to get used to this... I wanted everything to be back to normal!

"I need to go to the bathroom," I said, standing up.

"There's one next to this room, I will guard the door," Derek stood up next to me, and walked out of the room. I followed behind... It was a big appartmet. There was a kitchen, opened to a dining room, and joining a living room, all visible from where I was standing, since the kitchen was just in front of us.
