Luciana's POV
I arrived at Dr. Sanchez's office, feeling a little lighter than usual. The trip to the cabin with Pedri and babysitting Miles seemed to have grounded me somehow. I needed this session today, though. I needed to talk about everything—how things were shifting, how I felt hopeful but also cautious.
As I sat on the familiar leather couch, Dr. Sanchez offered me her usual warm smile. "How are we today, Luciana?"
I smiled back. "Better, I think. Definitely better."
"That's good to hear," she said, sitting in her chair across from me. "What's been going on? We didn't have a session last week, so I imagine there's quite a bit to catch up on."
I took a deep breath, unsure of where to even start. "Well, Pedri and I went away for a couple of days. We went to a cabin, just the two of us."
Dr. Sanchez raised her eyebrows slightly, nodding with interest. "That's a big step. How did that go?"
"It was... honestly, it went better than I expected," I admitted, feeling a smile tug at the corners of my lips. "We talked, like really talked. About everything that happened, how we both messed up, and how we can move forward."
"And how did those conversations feel for you?" Dr. Sanchez asked, her voice gentle, always encouraging me to dig deeper.
"At first, it was hard," I said, shifting slightly in my seat. "I was so nervous about bringing up Kenan and the things that caused tension between us. But Pedri was really open. He didn't get defensive, which is what I was scared of."
"That's a positive change," Dr. Sanchez noted, jotting down a few notes on her clipboard. "How did you feel after the conversations? Relieved? Closer to him?"
I nodded. "Definitely closer. It felt like we were finally on the same page. Like we could actually move forward without all the baggage hanging over us."
"That's wonderful," she said, her eyes bright with approval. "So, how did the rest of the trip go? Was it just talking, or did you manage to relax and enjoy each other's company as well?"
I laughed a little, remembering the peaceful moments at the cabin. "Yeah, after we got the serious stuff out of the way, we really enjoyed it. We cooked together, hiked, even just sat by the fire talking about random things. It was nice. Simple."
Dr. Sanchez smiled. "It sounds like you two found a way to reconnect in a very meaningful way."
I nodded. "We did. And then when we got back... well, life kind of went back to normal. But in a good way, I think."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Well, the day after we got back, I babysat Frenkie and Mikky's son, Miles," I explained. "And I invited Pedri to come along with me."
"Interesting," Dr. Sanchez said, her voice carrying that therapist curiosity. "Why did you invite him?"
"I don't know," I said honestly. "I guess I just didn't want to do it alone. And I thought it would be nice to spend time with him in a different way. Not just the two of us, but with a kid, you know?"
"How did Pedri handle being around Miles?"
"He was amazing," I said, feeling warmth spread through me at the memory. "He played football with him, watched matches, just kept him entertained. It was so natural for him. Honestly, watching him like that made me feel... I don't know, really happy."
Dr. Sanchez's gaze softened. "It sounds like seeing Pedri in that role gave you a sense of comfort, maybe even security?"
I thought about that for a moment. "Yeah, I think so. It was like I could see a future, you know? Like, this is what life could be like—easy, happy. It made me feel more connected to him than I have in a long time."
"That's a significant shift, Luciana," Dr. Sanchez said, leaning forward slightly. "It sounds like Pedri's behavior has helped rebuild some of the trust that was broken after everything with Kenan."
"It has," I agreed. "But I also know it's not going to be perfect. We still have a lot of work to do. "
Dr. Sanchez said, her voice full of encouragement. "And as you move forward, remember to take things one step at a time. Rebuilding trust takes time, but you're already doing the work."
"Thanks," I said, feeling a bit lighter. "I really appreciate your help, as always."
"That's what I'm here for," she said with a smile. "Same time next week?"
"Definitely," I replied, standing up. "I'll have more to share by then, I'm sure."
As I left Dr. Sanchez's office, I felt a renewed sense of focus. There was still work to be done, but I wasn't alone in this anymore. I had Pedri, and I had the tools to keep moving forward.
And for the first time in a while, that felt like enough.
