INT: School Canteen 09:01 Wed
(Gary, Maryann, Henry)
Gary: Here, Mazza, Do you remember what I mentioned the other day, about our Harvey?
Maryann: Yeah? The Devil's lettuce?
Gary: Yeah, he's just messaged me, apparently school caught him having it delivered on site. What's all them suits gonna think of me as a parent? Letting my kid do stuff like that? God knows one of them'll be in here in a minute to judge me.
Maryann: It'll be alright, Gary, I'm sure it will.
Enter Henry.
Henry: Gary. A word?
Gary: I already know what you're gonna say. All I can say is I'm sorry. I'll make sure it does t happen again.
Henry: I'm not typically one to pass remarks, but you need to get your act together as a father. Before it's too late.
Maryann: Hey, you don't get to judge him like that.
Henry: You're lucky to still even have a job here, so pipe down. Anyway, I have a meeting to get to.
Exit Henry.
Maryann: God. The brass neck on him.
Gary: He's right though. I'm a crap dad. At least when Layla was alive we had each other to rely on with him. Now I'm just... useless.
Maryann: Don't say that. You're a good dad, you've just got a hard time of it.
Gary: You reckon?
Maryann: Yeah. Don't put yourself down, Gary, you're one of the goodens. If Donhall were ever in your position, My kids would be in care or something.
Gary: Thanks, Mazza. I needed that. Like, really. But how do you do it? I struggle with one, I don't know how I'd cope with five.
Maryann: You'd find a way to manage.
Gary: Yeah...
