Chapter 30: crossed the line

A month later the world finally seemed to slow down a little. Ethan and Jess finally got their first date which was perfect and still able to keep it a secret, even Spencer had no idea still though Jess was starting to think about talking to him. However unfortunately they still hadn't found Elliot.

"Hey are we still on for our date tonight?" Ethan asked finally catching up to Jessica entering the break room.

"Hm? Yeah sure why wouldn't we be?" she started making herself a coffee trying to avoid eye contact with Ethan who was stood watching her intently.

He softened his voice a little "because I've barely heard from you recently.What's going on with you you've been acting off all week"

"Nothing I was just tired alright" She snapped at him which she instantly regretted and sighed.
"Look I'm sorry but can you just drop it? It's really not that big of a deal"

"No what's going on? Have I done something?" She could tell he was getting frustrated with her. "Jessica I'm serious what is it?"

She stayed silent for a moment, studying his face and noticing the concern written all over it. "What are we Ethan?" She sighed. "We've gone on a loads of dates no, you call me everyday after work, we are keeping it a secret from everyone. What is this? Because I need to know and I don't want to keep guessing anymore. Are we together or not? I don't have time for games" Ethan just listened and began smiling at her. "What? Why are you smiling?"

"You just couldn't wait could you?" He chuckled leaving her even more confused and honestly annoyed.

"What!"

He stifled his chuckles and smiled at her "I was going to ask you tonight To be my girlfriend. I had this whole plan I was going to take you to that new Italian you've been desperate to try and I had flowers ready to set up on the table and everything" Jess was shocked into silence, grinning from ear to ear listening to what he had planned for her.

"Really?" Her voice filling with excitement.

"Yes! I had it all ready to go I-" she cut him off by kissing him, one of his hands cupped her face while the other pulled her in closer.

"Yes" she pulled away briefly to look at him.

"Wait I didn't get to ask"

"Do it now"

He grinned at her "jessica will you be my girlfriend?"

She started giggling excitedly "yes! Yes a thousand times yes" she kissed him gently then hugged him, feels his arms wrap around her waist. She couldn't contain her excitement and laughter.

"Umm... Am I interrupting something?" Both Ethan and Jess jumped back from each other and saw Spencer stood there with a face they couldn't quite read.

"Dad! What are you doing in here?" She tried to play it off as cool as she could but Jess had a very clear idea on how she planned to tell Spencer about her and Ethan. She was going to sit him down and do it at home. She definitely didn't want him to find out by walking in on them hugging in the break room at work.

"To get coffee? This is the break room"

"Oh yeah..."

"So what's going on with you two?" He said casually walking in the room like he was totally oblivious to what he saw.

"Uhh, what do you mean?"

"Well you were hugging and seemed to be very happy. Did something happen?"

Jessica glanced at Ethan for a moment while she decided if she should tell him then "umm yeah it did actually..." she took a deep breath then walked over to Ethan slowly and held his hand "me and Ethan are together" jess awkwardly smiled at Spencer with hope in her eyes but he didn't say a word for ages. He just stared back at her. "Dad? Please say something"
