Bear
I rode my bike very carefully down the road towards our new house. It was a double story mud brick home that blended into the landscape like it had been there since time immortal.
Rachel had watched each stage of the structure go up and we built new memories of the farm along with the house.Today was moving day, and just about the whole club was moving us in. The trucks were already there and people unloading. Crackers was manning bbqs and ordering around Ol'ladies, who were only following the orders when they wanted to. The chaos was enhanced by Midwife's dog running around getting chased by a little brown splotchy pup and chickens squawking when they got too close. It was perfect.
It was doubly perfect feeling my son kick against me as Rachel pressed her belly against my back. She insisted on riding into our new home like a proper Ol'Lady, meaning on the back of my bike. As always, she got her own way. I have never, and probably will never be able to tell her no.
We pulled up and Horse sauntered over. Momma was sitting in one of the rocking chairs on the Porch with a blanket over her. She was holding Daisy and Midwife's little son Andy, while Stels and Trey helped her entertain him.
"Wait please." Rach whispered behind me. "I want to remember this. I want this memory of my family embedded in my head."
I sighed contently, and planted my feet so the bike would stay steady when Rach decided to get off. She was right, this was our family. Horse stood by her and looked back.
"That's what we are."he agreed. "We're one big crazy family. By the way, that pup going crazy over there? That's yours. You always said this place needed a dog."
"A dog?!" Rachel gasped. She lent forward to get her legs over, and forgot she couldn't lean that far anymore. Horse laughed and lifted her up so she could get off.
I pulled the bike back onto its stand as she ran off after the dogs.Horse clapped me on the back.
"Welcome home, Brother. May you keep finding happiness here."
I looked around. Yes. I think I will.Author Notes:
Bear and Sweet pea's baby boy was born big and healthy right on time. They named him Edward. He didn't get christened and Rachel never went back to the church.
The dogs name is Cocoa because he's a red Merle border collie, and looks like swirly hot Cocoa.
Jefferson is still agisting a few paddocks and uses it as an excuse to drop in and chat... then visit Lily's grave. Rachel got a seat put up just for him nearby. He gets called Grumpy, which is close enough to Grampy for everyone.
No one knows who Pa is.
