SERGEANT CHASE

"She only got just a few bruises but nothing serious" The nurse informed me outside the medical bay.

"Did you see any signs of penetration?" I asked in fear of her answer.

"No, they didn't get to. You must have arrived right in time. She is very lucky. We have had a couple of girls from the other base who were raped in the past week. They were left there with no witness and they were so traumatized, they are still not talking. SDS won't allow them to be dismissed"

The nurse looked quite nervous to talk to me. I wondered why?.

I wasn't that scary, was I?.

"Seniour Drill Sergeant (SDS) Shepherd?. Did he mention why?" I couldn't think of a good enough reason why Senior Shepherd wanted to keep traumatized girls in training.

I had only ran into the man a couple of times to know I didn't like his guts. It was best I stayed away from people who had chances of getting hit by me.

The solace my demons got from violence...

"No, Sergeant. He just asked us to give them a little more medicine to numb their pain enough so they can get back to training"

"You mean he asked you to drug trainees so they can get back to training?" I spoke through my gritted teeth. I kept my eyes on her scared ones to make sure she answered truthfully.

"Y..yes Sergeant"

"Thank you. I will go check on her"

I walked inside the medical bay to one of the beds that were devided by a see through material.

I opened the curtain going in to see Aidan already sitting upright.

She turned her head to look at me.

"How are you feeling?" I stood in one spot at the end of the bed with my arms crossed.

"I'm sorry" I heard her whisper looking down in shame.

"Oh yeah?. What are you sorry for Private Black?" I knew my tone was cold but she was reckless.

"I. I should have listened."

"Speak up"

"I should have listened to you when you told me not to go to the lake alone" She raised her voice enough for me to actually hear her.

"Then why didn't you listen?"

"I..uh..I need it. It helps me okay?. I'm sorry I caused trouble..." Aidan looked up with red sorrow filled eyes.

"No, I don't think you understand Aidan. You disobeyed me and now you expect me to believe you are sorry for that?. Aidan you almost got yourself molested. Do you understand that?"

"Y..yes I do. I am sorry I didn't listen.I...thank you for saving me"

"Now I'm not saying it's your fault. What happened at the lake, those trainees are the only ones to blame. I don't care if you were alone. That doesn't give anyone the right to violate you like that. I will get them punished and dismissed from the military" I stopped forward to get closer to her then I raised her chin up so she could look at me.

"I was scared and that must make me weak for a soldier but I was so scared. I thought it would happen again and.. and.."

"Aidan you are safe. Nobody is going to harm you because I won't let them" I let go of her chin.

She bit her lip choosing to look up still.

"Thank you. I know I keep fucking up, I will act right. I will listen."
