CHAPTER TWENTY TWO: QUESTION...?

Ivory let out a croaky groan as her phone went off, blaring out the familiar tune of her alarm and also waking up Yoko in the process. Neither of them were truly rested, given the fact they barely slept, Ivory even less than Yoko.

The vampire was the first to roll out of bed, wanting to get a head start and shower first, but Ivory gladly let her, not wanting to leave her bed just yet. She accidentally fell asleep again, too enticed by the warmth of her blanket, but when she woke up again to Yoko shaking her, chuckling slightly, the fairy knew she had no more time to spare.

Despite the vampire suggesting that she would wait up for her, Ivory reassured her that it would be fine so as soon as she pushed Yoko out the door, Ivory hopped under the shower. Another reason she wanted Yoko to leave first was knowing she'd eventually have to talk to her about what happened the night before and Ivory wasn't sure if she could just yet.

Of course, Ivory could have just told Yoko the truth about how lost she felt and how scared she was when Wednesday had that vision. Ivory didn't know what she saw, but Wednesday was scared too and it's not an emotion she usually felt from the girl let alone associate with her. But what good would it do, Ivory had been thinking of that the entire night. She wanted to figure it out herself before she wanted to let her friends know, that's why she felt more comfortable talking to her aunt first.

Despite her head full of thoughts, Ivory surprised herself by how quickly she managed to get ready, because she even had the time to grab a little snack. As the blonde munched on the protein bar contentedly she rushed out of the dormitory, opting for crossing the courtyard instead of taking the long way through the connected buildings like Yoko and her usually did.

The only reason they did it in the first place, despite it taking way longer than simply crossing the courtyard, was that they had more time to talk even if they had to wake up a little earlier for that. So naturally Ivory wasn't stressed out as she trudged down the steps in front of her dormitory.

Ivory furrowed her brows at the sight of the burned grass, the message clear as day for everyone to see. It now seemed more unsettling than when she saw it from the balcony of Principal Weems' office two nights ago, it felt more real and therefore more threatening.

What confused her even more was the way Wednesday and Xavier were stood in front of it, clearly arguing and not noticing the blonde a few metres away. As Ivory got closer, she could make out Xavier's words.

"You still think I'm the monster? First Ivory and now me...",  Xavier trailed off as his gaze hardened and focused on the letters burned into the grass. Ivory couldn't believe it how seemingly everyone was on Wednesday's list of targets. The fairy's steps got slower, she didn't want to alert them of her presence and make them think she was listening in, which she was, but at the same time she wanted to give them their privacy.

"I haven't ruled it out", Wednesday responded coldly and Ivory winced at that, she got why Wednesday was so hellbent on finding out the truth, but Ivory was also of the opinion that accusing everyone instead of waiting for the authorities to handle it was not the right way to do it either.

"Well, if you change your mind and want my help, you know where to find me", Xavier spoke, glancing at Wednesday before turning around to walk away. He spotted Ivory and immediately walked over to her, knowing she probably heard their exchange anyways. Side by side the two crossed the courtyard wordlessly, the only sound being the wrapper of the half eaten protein bar that Ivory had since handed over to the frustrated boy.
